Hi, I bought/received a Wii U Demo/Kiosk Unit (WIS-001). When I test the unit the gamepad is working fine and the console makes all the normal stuff that a retail unit is doing (checking the disc drive at the beginning and the blue LED is constantly on) but I get a black screen on my TV. I tried to use an RGB connection via Scart from the Multi-Out and HDMI connection but both connections give me a “no signal found” message on my TV (I also tried Scart via my PVM (Scart to BNC-Adapter) but no luck.) The unit is working to some kind since putting in an empty SD card will boot the Kiosk Menu/Service Menu, but I can only change the settings of the Kiosk stuff and not the preferred TV connection within this menu. I doubt that both video connectors are non-functional (could be possible but I doubt it at the moment). My guess is that the console is set to “Non-HDMI”/480p. This could explain why I cannot see anything via RGB/Scart or HDMI. I remember that it was always a hassle to change the TV connection on my retail unit when switching between CRTs and HD-TVs (can only be done via the Gamepad) I ordered now a component cable from eBay to check the unit via this connection but this will take a few days. I will also try the unit on more TVs (I think the TV I used might not be able to support Full HD/1080p while writing this. The TV is from 2006-ish and in my opinion might be only “HD-ready”, this term was used in the EU for TVs which should only support 720p and 1080i) and also try to change the cable to eliminate this error source. But my questions are: -How is the TV connection set up in the beginning of the demo unit? Can the TV connection be even changed on thise units or are they defaulted to e.g HDMI/1080p. Since Nintendo had the control how the kiosk stuff was shipped (which TV etc.) this could be the preset to demonstrate the Wii U in the best resolution possible. -Is there anything to access those TV Connection settings (in the system settings of the retail unit) on a Kiosk/Demo unit. -Is there any kind of button combination on the Gamepad and the unit to reset the TV connection settings to Non-HDMI/480i or HDMI/720p such that i could test it before waiting for the Component cable. I think the retail unit can only do this within the system settings. -Is there maybe a software like the “MenuChanger” in the SDK or Dev Portal to reset the unit via the SD card (recovery boot/factory reset) or something like that.
So I tried it on a more modern PC monitor and there it is working fine. So the resolution is HDMI/1080p/60Hz. So I think you cannot change it with the standard Kiosk setting and just need to make sure to use a setup which supports 1080p/60Hz via HDMI. So only TVs from 2004-2010 might have problems with it.
These units are usually connected via HDMI. No idea whether analogous video is supported or not. By inserting any SD card you can boot into settings mode (which you have done concerning to the screenshot). You can download some ddi (don't recall which one exactly) from the dev portal that installs the Dev Menu. It looks like a normal Wii U menu. You can also go back to Kiosk mode. But be cautious that changing the menu might wipe the MLC therefore all installed demos will be gone (happened to me)
I already downloaded the ddi and the Menu Changer software from the dev portal. The kiosk unit unfortunately has no demos on it so there is no problem that it could wipe anything will probably take a few weeks until i have enough time to do this in a "quiet minute". I think the ddi file has to match the region of the kiosk unit and the Cafe OS SDK version of the unit has to be in the range of the Cafe OS SDK specification in the Readme....html of the MenuChanger Software/zip. I didnt know I can go back to the kiosk menu later. What is the process of going back to the kiosk menu after I changed to the "dev menu". Is this just another ddi file? Is this also available in the dev portal? I think there were one or two zip files dedicated for the kiosk units EDIT: I found the WiiU-Kiosk_Previewer-4_0-20141121_en.zip. As far as I understand it after I applied the ddi file/MenuChanger I can install this "app" to launch the kiosk mode again.
Interesting. did this Previewer work for you? I got back to the actual kiosk menu once a a demo gameplay has ended. Or via the Kiosk Settings Menu
