OK, I was trying out some emulators on the Wii and most work as they should (yeah, even Yabause boots, huh).
But for some reason, the two mentioned in the title cannot find the roms, nor anything else...

    I know the app's location is: sd/apps/wii64
The structure for roms, saves, cheats should be for instance: sd/wii64/roms/

Both of these apps boot, but when I try to read from said location to show up any rom or iso, it errors out stating it can't read (or was it find) said location... which is weird. I was thinking that it has something to do with the card (eg SDHC), but then the app itself also wouldn't boot?

As mentioned before, emus such as VBA GX and Snes9x GX do work perfectly (as one doesn't have to select the location of roms).

Anyone else having troubles with this and maybe a solution?
Didn't find anything related on the net..

PS anything else app-wise works on my 32GB SDHC, so I really doubt this is the culprit...

Its possibly the SD card. If the libs used to compile the apps are old - there could be compatibility issues once the app is loaded (vs libs used in homebrew channel that work OK).

The menu system doesnt run in the background, so each app takes full control of sd card etc.

Hmmm that's like Chinese to me...
I didn't try USB yet though, as I only have a WBFS formatted one.. I could always try with one of my PC USB drives to check...
Awaiting anyone coming up with similar situation; I'd think everyone to have this problem, not just me? weird.
Or am I correct thinking the actual app doesn't mind SDHC, but the code looking for roms can't handle SDHC??? ergh

There is a modified version of both that uses USB 2.0. I recommend getting Not64, it's in development and is making some real progress. The USB 2.0 version of WiiSX can be found by googling a bit, Not64 same.
