its a beta for the internet browser for the wii, early beta before the wii was released to the public
The shop uses opera, this was a hack to let you use it as a browser. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7BQ4TzCxbpA Really nothing usefull at all. Unless you need a calculator or periodic table. I'm not sure how they were hoping to get from this to linux.

i saw one of the early beta releases of the internet channel, hmm where was it... I guess it was on a friends wii. gotta give him a call and let ya know.
The wii always had a native browser, opera is run when you turn on the wii. It's used for lots of the UI. wiix was a hack to allow this locked down version of opera to break out to other web pages. No beta or anything special. It was pointless and the things the guy said on the youtube video were impossible. He got his fifteen minutes of fame.
ooh kk thanks for explaining and thats true opera is started when the wii is on. some types of wii bricks do show an opera error message on start.
interesting hmm i never knew opera was a big part in the SM, i thought they where only responsible for internet channel,and shop channel
