Will a model 2 saturn laser fit a model 1?

I left my model 2 saturn in an unheated shed and the board coroded and it died, but i still have the cd drive. Will the laser work in a model 1? i know the drive wont since its 20 pins vs 21

There's no such thing as a Model 1 and a Model 2. Wish people would stop saying this! There are many revisions of motherboard (at least 12) and I believe there were actually differences in the laser units, although I forget where the change happened offhand.

 

I'll figure it out once my saturn comes and i crack it open.

 

The model 2 laser will power up but the disc wont spin with it installed.
