To make this short, i'm going to assume anyone reading this post knows the details of both the Xbox One, the PS4 and the OUYA. It's an almost unanimous decision that most people are going to buy a PS4 over the Xbox One. With both platforms having identical system specs, Microsoft has implemented mostly of what we all feared would come, while Sony didn't do anything spectacular but kept things mostly the same. I got to thinking that this might open up a big enough hole for OUYA to actually have a shot at something. At the moment, OUYA's game library is a joke. It mostly consists of cell phone games and emulators, except for a select few games. My thought is that a lot of people who were planning on mindlessly buying the next xbox are now to look for another console. Sony is the next logical choice, with Nintendo being out of the "mainstream" game for some time now. OUYA on the other hand is new, people looking for another console most likely haven't heard many bad things about it and it's going to be vastly cheaper. OUYA may have a chance to stand out, if it doesn't get completely screwed by a terrible game library. It's most definitely not going to compete with the PS4 or xbox one on a technical level, but graphics aren't absolutely everything. What are your guys's thoughts on this?
The Ouya is probably going to be a console people get just to mess around with. I plan on getting one for just that, and to support small studios. I don't think the XBOX One will have any impact on it's sales The XBOX One is it's own universe and endless abyss. The Ouya is not supposed to be anyone's main system just something to mess around with. And and yes 7force, we know you hate the Ouya for no reason, no need to bring it up again
I dont think the two machines appeal to the same type so I am tempted to say it wont have an impact, however the whole microsoft debacle might make people go read about current consoles and may discover the Ouya as a result. It is surprising the number of people I meet in everyday life who have never heard about the Ouya. I plan on buying an Ouya, mostly to mess with it yeah But then these days I really enjoy messing around with stuff and the Ouya is the only console I plan to buy this generation.
different markets i think, xbox one is a voice controlled DVR that plays games ouya is a open source game console
I was going ti get a Ouya just to play with but I don't need to now because I just bought a laptop that runs Windows 7 and Android 4.0 Great stuff.
The only company that might save Ouya is Nvidia , they just announced at E3 that the ouya will support there grid service meaning a on-live like service is now pssible.
Does Ouya have exclusive titles? I don't see what differentiates it from pc gaming at all... a $99 price tag? Sure this might be the only console some can afford, but those people probably already have a tablet/phone/computer that can play the games. If you want to tinker, can't you do it more cheaply with a Raspberry Pi? Like any console, it comes down to games. I don't see the games on Ouya... yet. Xbox One will probably sell "well" with people looking for a PVR/HTPC setup (I have "well" in quotes because of how "well" the PSX sold), Ouya has a completely different target demo. I don't think spurned Xbox devs are going to flock to Android either.
I don't think the OUYA can compete with any current gen consoles either, but if enough people are turned off by microsoft and are looking for a new console, the ouya might appeal to some of them. From my experiences, many casual gamers opted for the xbox 360 because of the huge online arcade library. Maybe it's possible that if they get turned off by Microsoft they may head for the OUYA. I also will be buying one just for curiosity's sake. Interesting, this could help OUYA a lot if they even get any serious titles. OUYA game library is terrible ATM, 150 games and maybe 5 are good. My fear is that the OUYA store will be flooded with bad games. IMO, the OUYA will compete differently than tablets / phones because it simply uses a TV and controller. The general public isn't too aware that you can sync a bluetooth controller to your tablet (providing the game supports it). I also belive the OUYA will be able to outperform most tablets when it comes to HDMI output. A tablet will have to render twice on two different screen sizes.
Like most of you, I will be getting one simply for something new and potentially fun. I don't have too high of hopes for the game library. But is anyone getting a Gamestick? I only heard about it after I put 25 bucks down on an Ouya at Gamestop, otherwise the 20 dollar difference have persuaded me towards it.
I wouldn't hate it if it wasn't for its retarded marketing as an INDIE REVOLUTION or whatever when it's really just a thing you can plug into a TV to play Android games, made by an incompetent company. Therefore I enjoy laughing at its crappiness. I used to think that too, but the Raspberry Pi's hardware is way too limited to make anything interesting with it. The design looks much better and the people making it look much more competent: for example, when they had a delay in production, they actually said it was going to be delayed, rather than lying about it and posting laughable charts drawn in freehand.
Goddammit stop making sense I wasn't 100% sold on it until I looked at a games list for it and saw a few appealing titles that won't be on other Android consoles. I haven't seen ANYTHING exclusive on the Gamestick or 60 shitzillion other android consoles.
I completely agree with you, but the OUYA is superior in the graphics category by a significant amount and compared to modern consoles even OUYA's graphics suck.
When it comes to Android devices, graphics aren't exactly the most important thing. The Ouya people hyped up the specs without even considering the fact that it will be outdated fast, especially since it took them months to get it shipped. I wouldn't count on anything worthwhile remaining Ouya exclusive for long. It just doesn't make sense to release your game only on an Android device with its own proprietary store, with a user base of maybe 50,000 if we're being generous, when Google Play gives you millions of potential buyers.
I got my OUYA from kickstarter in april and the only thing I use the console is for emulation and I have to say it have a good emulation for the arcades the NEO GEO and CPS2 and 3 run almost perfect, I say almost because the emulators are sideloaded form the tablet versions. The problem with the consoles and the android games is the storage space 8gb is not enough, if you download bard tale is 3gb so there goes the space.
The ouya appeals to nobody, gamers have their consoles and casuals use their phones That shit brick is a console that plays phone games, the worst of both worlds: not portable and total weaksauce
