I have the US version of JVC wondermega which is a Genesis/SegaCD hybrid. I was just wondering if my 32x will work on the machine so that I can buy some crappy 32x/SegaCD only type of games, like NightTrap 32x which is a better version of the Sega CD game as far as picture quality goes.

You'll have some trouble because IIRC the 32X requires you to input the MD/Gen's RGB video.

That's it, right? Nothing "bad" won't happen like screw up both the 32x and JVC or just give a crappy picture?

Without modifying your X'Eye, NOTHING will happen at all since the X'eye only outputs composite and S. It needs the RGB from the system so it can mix in it's own video and output it through it's own AV out. (Thats why the 32X comes with those special cables)

It has the A/V port like if you have the RF adapter. It does have the solder leads for an S-Video so I might someday put that in. I have all the cables so I guess I could just plug it all in and see for myself.

Oh, I don't think the Wondermega had AV out so thats an improvement. If you hook it all up, it should work. You can't damage anything.

You say theres a space on the 32X PCB for a DIN4/Svideo connector?

Maybe the lack of video throughput won't even matter as the 32XCD games probably only use the 32X part for picture generation. Might as well try.

When I was playing Knuckles Chaotix once, I didn't plug the throughput in properly, and on the screen was just the level backgrounds. It would seem that it outputs 2 different parts of the game from the MegaDrive and the 32X and multiplexes them before sending them to the TV.

Well I thought it was interesting... :-(

Don't worry poor lad, it is! Are you sure no sprites at all showed up? I recall Chaotix did quite a bit of sprite zooming and the MD can't do that on its own...

Yeah, nothing in the way of sprites at all, or at least nothing terribly memorable.

I'm talking about the JVC. Next to the RCA composite port (which is in stereo, not mono) theres a circle. When I opened her up, I can see solder leads where an Svideo port goes. I'll post a picture when i can.

I can't really tell from the picture but you may have a special debugging unit there, most consoles don't make users solder on jacks to use advertised features like Svideo :smt043

i have a jvc x-eye...theres a circle on mine as well, but its not a complete cut out hole. a little bit of the top half is cut out but the bottom hasnt been touched at all.

if you want rgb...im guessing, but its probably more than likely that you can extract the signals right off a rgb encoder chip.

    Very Strange

    Hello

My X'eye (which I BTW bought broken and fixed :-D ) has a connector just like the one on the Genesis 2 and MD2, so I should be able to play 32X on it. I use this connector instead of RCA
    for obvious picture quality reaons.

However, It seems rather strange that you don't get the same connections as me, as my X'eye comes from the US. I can send picture if you want.

Were they many different iterations of the X'eye?

Anyway without this connector no 32X I'm afraid :smt022

    Cheers

    Sabre
