Will Super Mario 64 hacks work with the expansion pak?

So I heard that most Mario 64 hacks don't work with the Everdrive. But I thought its because you need an expansion pak for them to work. I tried Star Road on an emulator and it didn't work until I switched the ram from 4 to 8 mb. Can somebody tell me if Mario 64 hacks work if you have the expansion pak?
