Hi All, Has anyone worked with Dragon before? I want to pay someone some money to code me a basic engine for a game, so that our team can build upon it!... not for public release, just as a challenge! Let me know if you are intrested: adam-james@station6.org )
You may want to give an idea of how much you want to invest in such engine. $10 ? $100 ? $1000 ? $10000 ? In any case, working on Dragon if you aren't licensed by SEGA is illegal. KOS can get out fair results. The only advantage I would see in working with Dragon is the easy of portability.
Sure am... I am not looking to release the end product to the public... perhaps leek it to these boards, but thats it... ...and im working on getting a licence to dev for dreamcast... Sega Europe refered me to a guy at Sega Japan, and we are exchanging mails at the mo. I have a few very intresting idea's in mind... one which im doing alone, but one which requires using Direct3d... which i have not used much before. I guess the first thing to do would be to port some nice direct3d stuff, then adapt it for our project.
... i'm using Katana and i can say i like it very very much... I do not think coding with DirectX on DC is meaningfull...DC has its own personality...
i see, i also useing 2way fot DC dev ,Katana R9 and DC WINCE SDK 2.1 which one is better? i don't know too, coz even which one buil the GD-R, just use Master disc ver.2 to boot also work fine~ :smt023
... if you know what you are doing SH4 assembler for math stuff and Kamui2 are the best,no question about it. I also think WinCE uses the MMU which slows things down.... HI_Ricky,do you use kamui2 at all?Maybe we could exchange opinions and stuff...
I heard that you do not have to have a license to develop Dreamcast games anymore from a guy in software creations. He was telling me you only had to pay Sega to press the discs, that was the way they made some money from it. I don't think you will have to pay for a license anymore considering the machine is no longer sold at retail. This is why so many of these asian pc developers release dating sims and stuff on dc,as they dn't have to pay masses of money as they would if they had to produce the same game for ps2.They also shift an extra so many copies bringing it to a platform which people still use in Japan. Can someone clarify how the DC license works now,is it just a case of asking Sega??
Nintendo Mad, you're right but not at 100%. I mean that the terms have changed, as you explain, but you still have to be selected and enter in an official list of developers. Without that permission, althought you've a kit for developers, you aren't an official (and legal) developer. About what I'm not sure is developing internal projects and if its legal without having that permission (not a real license) I supposse you also need it... Salutes .
Thanks negora,I have been wondering about that for ages. A couple more questions though.... Once you have been accepted onto the dev list, can you then buy a Development kit straight from Sega??? If so won't they still sell the gd roms and gd rom burners people have such trouble finding all the time.I stilll have a sneaky suspicion that is what jap devs are doing then selling them on ebay for ridiculous profit.
If I not mistaken, SEGA and other companies use a closed system based on "recycling" kits, what means that once you're not going to use it for longer they accept that kits back, paying you a concrete quantity of money (less than what you payed obviously, and only if they've more developers in list) That's the reason because some enterprises decide to sell by theirselves and not via SEGA... About GD-Rs, it's said that SEGA of Japan has enough quantities in stock yet, not needing to manufacture more at this moment. Anyway, these haven't why to be printed GD-Rs. I'm sure that if there're more developers interested on Dreamcast, SEGA would give them single GD-Rs with no stamps on it (no the famous orange discs) But this is only a personal suppossition. If someone has a different experience with SEGA or other company, it would be interesting to exchange information .
