Im typing this message under the VISTA BETA right now, didnt looked at everything, but man this thing cannot compare with XP in term of eye candy. That thing is insane! h: Seems to run fine on my Athlon XP 2000+ with 1gb of ram and my ATI X700 so far. It seems to be a very user friendly OS, way more than XP (!) and doesnt feel like windows from what i have experienced. Im pleasantly surprised, and yes, the fisher price look is definitivly gone. It may not be as stylish as OSX, but it sure is looking better (imo).
Just download the XP drivers, and right click on the setup file, choose "compatibility mode" and run it as XP. It should work fine then, mine did.
I missed the boat in getting a product key, but MS let me download the iso - has anyone got a spare product key they can PM me - they are apparently valid for 10 installations each. Cheers
Me too.... :-( Can anyone PM me a licence key for it if they don't mind if they're valid for 10 installations? Cheers peeps.
Most I found on google were limited to 10 installs, so when you try to activate it fails, limiting you to 14 days of use.
Do you have the option to change back to XP after the year is up? I wouldn't mind playing around with it but if I don't like it I dont want to get stuck paying for it just to have a working OS. I have my original XP install discs.
You can always reinstall any OS you have the disks for on your computer. It's not like installing Vista prevents you from booting off an XP disc. -hl718
Or you could partition your drive and have vista on one and XP on the other, and dual boot. Vista automagically installs a boot manager
I was just at a computer shop here in Japan. They havd packaged versions of the Vista Beta available for free. No English, tho....
Legally owning VISTA will cost you alot of money.save a bit more and get a Ps3. Vista takes up alot of valuable memory for... jack's shit. It's flashy, but it's not a revolution in functionality. It's not gonna make anyone using it save any time doing X task etc. Sure, people say it's "safe", but how safe can such a complex platform software be? in time microsoft will patch and patch till your system drags once more. Takes up alot of hard-drive space probably. Games? the first bach of *anything* isnt worth the money. Why use the future now, when u can afford the future for peanuts in..the future? Patience saves money too. Besides, next gen consoles level-off with high end PCs for at least the next two years if not more, so instead of paying 400 dollars for an OS, and about 2000 for a machine to play games on...just buy a games console. Anyone try to convince me to install Vista now/when it comes out? I m all ears..ehr...eyes
FFS!!!!! I was downloading it and at 90% it says FATAL ERROR and just stops!! Lost the 2.81 GB it had downloaded and I can't start it again because MS have closed the link!! Anyone else know how I can get a the beta of Vista?
Bit Torrent seems to be the only other chance you have, unless you happen to have an MSDN subscription (in which case you can get all vista betas). On a sidenote, I always use a download manager for files that big, browsers always seem to fuck it up somehow for me.
you cannot install windows vista on your hardrive alone, it's disabled for the beta, so you are obligated to keep another Os.
This is incorrect information. At least it is incorrect information for the public beta (Beta 2). Beta 2 of Vista will happily install by itself on a blank hard drive. No other OS is required. -hl718
