Further to booting up and obligatorily updating WipeOut HD on my PS3 I was treated with a bug that corrupts my save progress, or so they claim, and freezes the game at the "save warning" screen. This is a systematic fatal error that always occurs at the same point.
The console locks-up completely and I have to hard reboot it.

    My game is now unplayable.

I turned to official sources for assistance but it mentions something about having more than 50online friends - which I don't have and never did, I have about 19.

Nevertheless, I m pissed off. There's no way in hell I m going to have the time to re-play and win all the medals I had previously, all my livery gone, everything that I ve unlocked down the drain.

Having to clear the save file and restart isn't a solution - there's no point in playing a game -again- if it's so prone to fucking up again and again.

I have had enough of WipeOut HD and I wish I could get a refund - that would be the proper thing to do for those who are affected by Studio Liverpool's incompetence.

If someone had told me that it's a buggy game and I d have to someday erase my own save to "fix it", I would have waited until a stable release came about. For crying out loud, this is a console, I am a console-gamer and I m not used to paying for sup-par products, especially of such reputation and caliber, only to find myself being pissed off more than entertained by a game.

It is 100% their fault as I had no way of not updating the game, considering it's a console that's always online and will do so to bring things up to date.
    Practically speaking:

    -I paid for the game,

    - spent countless hours on the game, learning and practicing each course until I was morally rewarded

-Official updates are forced upon me and unknowingly fuck up my progress.

Hence, I have paid them to offer me nothing more than bother - I don't remember reading that in the review.

To put it in another way, it's akin to having downloaded a windows update that knowingly contains a virus- why the fuck didn't they stop offering the update in its current form until the damn thing was debugged??

I want to be treated fairly and so far they ve got my money and I have shit.

And this is why this so called download media is total wank. Upgrade this, up grade that. bollocks it is. If the game was released on hard media you could get a refund no problem at the store it was bought at. Also a game most be more stable from what I gather if it's to be released on hard media.

I've never been a fan of this download stuff for new games. Hard media is the way it should be. That way I can hold in my hands what I paid for.

They should do what they did for Little computer people way back when.

There was a bug that would result in hundreds of hours worth of care for your little person going down the drain.

The company offered a solution where you sent them your data and they extracted what they could and rebuilt the save for you.

    oh bummer :(

I just recently got the demo of this and was thinking of buying it. Guess it's one game less for the ever so small library of ps3 games..
Not going to go through corrupted saves, i've had enough of those with PSP already.
Thanks for the info, atleast you saved me from the hasstle :)

I always agreed with that view. I'll only buy Wipeout HD if they release it on a Blu-ray disc. I did the same with Gran Turismo HD. Got the install disc with the help of Madroms.

I also hate when they have to release patches for bugs and problems that could be easily solved on beta-testing.

And these are the same people that want to 'kill" hard media. :fresh:

of course they do. It's a cheap and easy way for them to get away with mistakes at little to no publishing cost and no refunds!

Hmm, want some cheese with that whine?

I understand why you'd be upset, but jeez. It's just a game. Presumably it offered you a lot of fun since you got so many trophies etc.

Well this is a game site, Its understandable to be upset when you spend hours on a POS game like that for all your hardwork to be throw in the trash. I refer to the game as a piece of shit because in my opinion it wasnt very.

Anyways that sucks man. I felt ripped off 10 minutes after I bought the game so I know how you feel. in a smaller magnitude tho.

I totally agree, Yakumo. And if they need to release a patch, how about PROPERLY TESTING it first?

There's a strong rumor that Sony is seriously considering going download-ONLY for the new PSP model, releasing by x-mas this year. No UMD slot at all. This is the model with slide-out keyboard & controls. It sounds completely ridiculous to me.

Imagine how it will be when there's no more support if they never
release the encrypt key for the ps3. Bye bye any historical record.

    Yes please.

So, if a game is really good (which Wipeout HD is imo), one should ignore fatal errors and console freezes? :noooo:

You're a lawyer, why not write sony a simple letter saying the game isn't fit for purpose and you want your credit back, and if they refuse why not threaten to take them to the small claims court?

Too bad Yaris isn't still available for download from Xbox Live. Much better than WipeoutHD imho.

Yes I know. At least with hard media you can own it and use it forever but with downloadable data, once your system dies then so do you r games. I can't see any company keeping their service alive 20 years down the road. Just imagine if the SFC or Mega Drive were download games if the technology was readily available back then. So much historic and classic gaming would be lost.

That won't bring my save files back, besides, there's no "small claims" court, so to speak, in Greece - meaning I d have to spend much more money than I d get back - additionally, I m using an English credit card, on a UK account, so you'd get all sorts of jurisdictional analysis before you even started in court :p

I know full well that I m holding the short end of the stick, hence why this thread is called a rant, I don't think there's much corporate sympathy for the people who are affected by this.

Wipeout HD is hardly a POS game. It just has a bad bug when you update. The game rules, the update sucks.

Amen to that. I refuse to buy air off download services of any kind.
