I recently got a new phone with built in Qi charging and I really like the idea behind it and how simple it is. Plus it charges my phone faster than USB. I would like to have one at my desk as well as my nightstand table, but what's the point, really? So then I was thinking... Is there a possibility to have an NFC+Qi base station? NFC for data connection to PC, Qi for power. Cool, right? Well at least I think it is. But I can't seem to find any info or any good connectors to PC via USB. Or, at least the ones' I'm seeing seem to be made for an active/passive situation for tags, and not an active/active for devices. Bluetooth is a possibility but I struggle to get a solid BT data connection every time I use it. Plus it's just another 2.4GHz device to add to the crowded frequency. NFC is a low power, low range and pair free data connection, which makes it ideal for this application. Anyone have some thoughts on this?
I believe there are wireless USB data devices that work upwards of 30' that have a small single port and PCB on the device end. Might be able to get that in the phone or maybe into a casing that connects to the phone USB dock port. Only problem will be getting power to it from the phone.
