Not really. Amperage really is just potential energy that can be delivered if called for. Voltage is the number one has to worry about when frying this sort of thing. As long as the Wondermega accepts 9v and your power brick outputs 9v its fine. Going below the spec for current usually results in the device not functioning or not functioning properly and potentially damaging components. I've not had it happen but I wouldn't rule it out as a possibility. 2A would be a fine adapter with the downside being it likely isn't functioning at peak efficiency when converting that AC into DC unless you are sucking down close to a full 2A. On the flipside if it is a cheaply made powerbrick you're looking at it taking an early dirt nap and maybe taking something with it for company no matter what current the device is drawing. I'd suggest heavily in using original power supplies if possible in all cases. There are some quality power supplies out there and they aren't exactly difficult to build with a small amount of electronics knowledge but making it into a nice little case with a cord and proper connector can make it cost prohibitive unless you can find a market for reproduction power supplies. I think more people are interested in just having it work than having it work for all eternity.
Are you positive about that? There's a guy on eBay claiming that he has a CDX power supply, but he says it's 9V 1A, whereas the Wondermega PSU is 9.5V 1.5A. I'm a bit confused by this, because I don't know of any Sega system that requires 9V 1A (although I have no idea what the CDX takes). The Genesis model 1 requires 9V 1.2A, the Genesis model 2 requires 10V .85A, and as I already said the Wondermega requires 9.5V 1.5A. That makes me think that maybe this eBay member is telling the truth and that really is what the CDX takes - in which case it's of no use to me. What do you guys think?
I own two CDX units, and I just took these pictures of the boxed unit ten minutes ago: The second image is a little blurry, but I hope you can observe that the OEM power supply is indeed a 1.5 amp spec.
Huh... that settles that, then. I guess the guy on eBay was lying or didn't know what he had. If only I could find a real one...
Okay, so apparently RadioShack has some "universal" AC adapters that are 9V 1.5A. Are you guys fairly certain that if I used one of those there would be no damage to my system?
Until last week I used the MD2 transformator for my HWM-5010, but occasionaly he did things alarming. Transformer noise (from de HWM) and All LED flash and mute in games. This during 2 or 3 seconds. I think the transformer of the MD2 does not provide enough amperage. Now I use a big 3-12 v transformer put in 9v and the HWM works fine. ---------------------------------- Other subject , I occasionally very strange behavior at startup. The HWM start but only appears tha backbroud of the wondermega demo and it was no sound and no acces drive. Just frooze. If I insert a MD cartrige, the game work but without sound. At the moment this happens because it is very cold at home. In normal times it never happens. I think the bios does not start, but why? Connection? Someone an idea?
