My Victor Wondermega has decided to stop working via S-video. maybe a bit of solder came off? Or maybe more serious? The machine works fine via composite however composite looks awful compared to S-Video.

Any ideas what could be wrong with the machine?

sorry to interrupt Mark, but is that TV 480p-capable or higher?

It's probably a bit of solder as the TV seems to be getting the luminance signal.

try an other s-vid cable and or try to l/r move the connector either on the tv side and the WM side, to see if the signal changes in any way. the the last would be to open the WM and resolder the s-vid connectors pins.

Indeed, maybe check the TV's S-video socket by plugging in something else. Also make sure the pins inside the connector are not bent. On some cheaper cables they bend really easily.

it goes up to 1080i via the Japanese D4 Terminal.

I've checked the TV S-Video with the DVD player and that works. I also tried the Wondermega on the TV's rear S-Video port but the same thing happens. I've also tried other cables with no luck. Maybe I will have to open up the Wondermega :(

Hey don't we have a console repairman around ? I think we do, and he is used to repairing old consoles.

If you've tried other cables and it doesn't work then yes, unfortunately you have to open up the system.

It could have been a broken pin on the cable you were using, but since you've changed cables, now it has to be the output.

Um, have you checked the output port where you plug in the S-Video? Does it look normal? Is it loose?

THe port seems solid to be honest which makes me think it's something more complicated like something has blown on the board that controls the S-Video output. I'll be home early tomorrow so I'll open up my baby to see what's what.
