So in the last few weeks I've got a Wonderswan frenzy. The fanbase in the west seems quite weak (or almost non existent) and very very few site are dedicated to this handheld (mostly isolated blogs). For example Lynx and Neo Geo Pocket are much better covered despite the combined library of the two having roughly the same number of games of the WS. This is likely due to SNK and Atari being more famous and the WS Japan-only nature that made the system an obscurity in the west. Thus I thought to do a series of articles for Unseen64 about WS cancelled games (at least those that I could find some images...) that will be available in these days. At the end the Wonderswan section of the site should be filled up to 10 articles: http://www.unseen64.net/category/wonderswan-2/ The first two articles are one related to an unknown shooter (I've added recently two more images) while the other is what look like a conversion of Princess Maker that got released on Saturn and Playstation. Glad to receive any feedback or suggestion.
I'm sure you've already rummaged around Bandai's old WonderSwan website via the Web Archive, but let me still post one or two things from there: http://web.archive.org/web/20030804100549/http://www.swan.channel.or.jp/msplatoon/ - a Gundam game that apparently never made it (IGN lists it as cancelled, can't find it on eBay, this page's capture is from 2003 while the last update was in 2001) http://web.archive.org/web/20031219...n.channel.or.jp/swan/software/r_korekara.html - newest available capture of the 2002 variant of the future release page, the bottom three entries never came out (Dice de Chocobo, Final Fantasy III, the aforementioned Gundam game); the one above them (Namco Super Wars) did come out October 31st 2002, so I'm guessing Bandai abandoned this page sometime before http://web.archive.org/web/20031207...nel.or.jp/swan/software/r_lineup/lup2003.html - newest available capture of the 2003 software line-up, from December that year, with Final Fantasy III as the sole TBD future release; Dice de Chocobo had disappeared between February and August 2003 Oh, also: http://web.archive.org/web/20010304...nel.or.jp/swan/software/r_lineup/lup2001.html - this appears to be the last capture on which the Princess Maker game appears, so it's probably been cancelled between March and August 2001
I've updated the Princess Maker article with your annotation xdaniel. One of the article is indeed about MSPlatoon, probably the "biggest" cancelled WS game with Final Fantasy III. Dice de Chocobo was moved to GBA. I gave a look to WS official site although not much about the release list, since I don't understand japanese.
New article up: Super GPS PacMan. A curious PacMan game that should have used the aborted GPS add-on.
New article up: mobilesuit Gundam MSPlatoon.com . An online focused strategy game based on the famous Bandai IP.
New article up: Final Fantasy III. Too bad the WSC remake was cancelled. It's probably the main cause we never got a 2D remake of this episode.
New article up: Let's Play Golf. What would have been a semi sequel to Wonder Classic (fittingly: one of the WS classic game). Namco this time integrated motion controls on the cartridge and use of the GPS Add-on would have guarantee new courses based on the player surrounding.
New article up: Magic Formation WARS. It was an RPG by Namco that used the GPS add-on to determine monsters position etc. With this one this mini-series of article about WonderSwan ends. Hope you enjoyed it.
And here I thought I had my fair share of WonderSwan knowledge - I don't think I had heard about this cancelled GPS add-on before, same goes for some of the other games. Nice work with the articles. If only there were still more screenshots and information about those games out there... well, or if only those games had actually been released, of course
Yeah, sadly. I prefer high res 2D remakes of FF I,II,IV on PSP to that low poly FFIII stuff on DS/Android.
Thanks for investing the time to dig up all this Wonderswan info. I have a handful of WS games, but have been intrigued by the system for a long time now.
I just found this list: (Gameplay RPG 23 - oct-nov 2000) Tamer Terrors II > Terrors II Guilty Gear King Breader > Guilty Gear Petit Raimu Rider > ? Working Chocobos > Dice de Chocobo?
Tamer Terrors II > Terrors II - yup that was a typo, Tamer was part of the previous Digimon title Guilty Gear King Breader > Guilty Gear Petit - Yep but King Breeder should have been another separate game from Sammy that went unreleased. Raimu Rider > ? - mistranslation of "Rhyme Rider Kerorican" I believe Working Chocobos > Dice de Chocobo? - Actually Hataraku Chocobo The list came form WSC presentation: http://www.ign.com/articles/2000/08/31/wonderswan-color-revealed Though I believe it is a mistranslation of this one: http://www.eagb.net/gameboy/didknow031.htm

Foreword: This was supposed to be a tiny, tiny post, yet I ended up researching (if you can call using Google and the Web Archive that) the respective title while typing this up. Especially towards the end of the post, it gets more and more disorganized. So, uh, hope this isn't too boring/weird/whatever a post. --- I'm kinda curious about Digimon Tamers: Network Tamers... All that Google appears to spit out for this one are "unrelease" lists like the above, as well as one mention on Famitsu's site from March 2001: http://www.famitsu.com/game/coming/2001/03/09/cs09.html The next Digimon games to come out on the WSC in 2001 are Digimon Tamers: Digimon Medley (mentioned by Famitsu under the working title of "Digimon Tamers: Digimon KIDS" - http://www.famitsu.com/game/coming/2001/03/09/cs08.html - also in March 2001), released in July, Digimon Tamers: Battle Spirit, released in October, and Digimon Tamers: Brave Tamer, releaed in December. I can't seem to find any mention of Brave Tamer (let's say BT for short) before November 2001, so I'm wondering if Network Tamers (NT) either was a working title for BT, or if the original concept of NT evolved into it? Putting Famitsu's above description through Google Translate, apparently NT supported the WonderGate adapter, and could download data from the net that changed the story. Something that might support this theory is that, while BT doesn't have WonderGate support (compare the descriptor icons for D-1 Tamers at http://www.swan.channel.or.jp/swan/software/line_up/index_DGM05.html with those for BT at http://www.swan.channel.or.jp/swan/software/line_up/index_DGM08.html - no cellphone icon for BT), there's login and ranking URLs and such inside the ROMs of both of them (quick and dirty rip from the ROMs): Brave Tamer: http://digi_b.wgg.channel.or.jp/cgi-bin/ Content-Type: application/x-www-from-urlencoded dmBsignup.cgi Content-Length: dmBlogin.cgi dmBrankbtl.cgi dmBrankdl.cgi dmBidupld.cgi dmBidsrch.cgi dmBidbtl.cgi http://192.0.2.156 POST HTTP/1.1 Host: User-Agent: SWAN/1.0 DIGIMON-0B Content-Length: GET HTTP/1.1 Host: User-Agent: SWAN/1.0 DIGIMON-0B D-1 Tamers: http://digi4.wgg.channel.or.jp/cgi-bin/ dm4signup.cgi Content-Length: dm4login.cgi dm4rankbtl.cgi dm4rankdl.cgi dm4idupld.cgi dm4idsrch.cgi dm4idbtl.cgi http://192.0.2.156 POST HTTP/1.1 Host: User-Agent: SWAN/1.0 DIGIMON-04 POST HTTP/1.1 Host: User-Agent: SWAN/1.0 DIGIMON-04 Content-Type: application/x-www-from-urlencoded #9602 http://www.gwp3d.com/chater.asis http://wgb01.channel.or.jp:80/service/charge/nph-gettime wgb01.channel.or.jp POST /service/charge/nph-gettime HTTP/1.1 Host: wgg01.channel.or.jp User-Agent: SWAN/1.0 Also, back to search results and such, take this Web Archive snapshot from August 2001: http://web.archive.org/web/20010814...nel.or.jp/swan/software/r_lineup/lup2001.html Release TBD: デジモンテイマーズ ネットワークテイマーズ(仮) - Digimon Tamers: Network Tamers (temporary) October: デジモンテイマーズ バトルスピリット - Digimon Tamers: Battle Spirit July: デジモンテイマーズ デジモンメドレー - Digimon Tamers: Digimon Medley ...and no mention of Brave Tamers whatsoever, 4 months before its release. Two more snapshots: August 2001: http://web.archive.org/web/20010814...n.channel.or.jp/swan/software/r_korekara.html - Network Tamers under undecided near the bottom. October 2001: http://web.archive.org/web/20011031...n.channel.or.jp/swan/software/r_korekara.html - Brave Tamers slated for December. ...hm, in my opinion, this is pointing more and more at Brave Tamer being Network Tamers, but (officially?) with the WonderGate features stripped out...
