I'm sure most collectors have bought something and then sometime in the future realised that what they had bought wasn't that much of a bargain at all. So I am hoping that one collector will admit buying Circus Lido for several hundred dollars, only to start crying when tons appeared when several new boxes of them were found in a warehouse. The 4 things I can think of which turned out to be poor bargains include... Sonic Adventure 2 Aniversary Edition (Jp), spent £30 on it and then see it plumet in value to the extent that you could buy it sealed new for less then £4. Gunstar Heroes review copy (JP), white label cartridge of the full game in a white label box, spent £120 on it only to see far too many of them in various auction and shops for less then £50. Trading Magical Chase (PC Engine) for Aryton Senna Super Monaco GP 2 (Megadrive) and Twinkle Tale (Megadrive). At the time I did have three copies of Magical Chase... Trading Magical Popfulmail (new and sealed) (PC Engine) for the Mega CD version (not new and sealed, in fact missing the obi...).
I was so close to getting stung by that Sonic Anniversary edition box set. Was eyeing it up on ebay about a month before Lan-Kwei or Lik-Sang or whoever it was started dumping them off for a fiver or so. Back in '02 or '03 as I recall.
Heres a few of mine: Sonic Adventure: Limited Edition complete with box and instructions: Normally, this is sort of hard to find, bidding went up to $100. When I needed the cash, I sold it to a forum member for...$30. Pirated Sonic the Hedgehog game: Went up to $60, bought a used Famicom just to play it. I can't even play the damn pirate because the Famicom almost caught on fire due to the seller not providing a AC Adapter. Steel Battalion: My worst trade in, and I was stupid about the entire thing. I got it for the full $200, and traded it in only when I came up short for the DS when it first launched. Got $70 for it, something I regret to this day (Even if I sucked at playing the game).
Paid $70 to have FF12 shipped to me overnight the day of release, collector's edition of course. It was either that or Bully thinking one would be more valuable than the other. A week ago GameStop was offering it up for $40. Not doing that again except for maybe Halo 3 Legendary, maybe. I sold a Genesis+games for $40 on ebay to find out the woman paid with a credit card and I wasn't about to upgrade my paypal account to accept them. Ended up selling it for $10+shipping. Ug. GameCrazy in town wanted $0.30 for Super Mario RPG. I just gave it to a kid in the store, game froze right before the first boss every time I played it so it wasn't even worth the plastic encasing it.
-Messe Sanno got reprints of Princess Crown some time after it had become somewhat rare. I bought a few, reselling most, but kept one, with the two phone cards it came with. I eventually sold them all for some dumb reason. The two phone cards and sealed PC went for 20,000+ yen a year or so ago on Yahoo Japan. -Sold a rather large box of random flyers for much less than I bought it for b/c I needed some space, and at the time was playing so much PSO I didn't care much for other games.
Only a few small things When these disks came out in the USA Got a whole lot from someone in the USA for peanuts, and just after they arrived for me to profit on ebay, they started to give them away with the official Nintendo Magazine I have quite a few Steel Battalion controllers (4) three of which are still sealed, paid the £160 odd price when released, they are now not going for much, but then they were bought to be handed down to my son in many years time. Well that`s what I tell my wife ;-)
on the topic of steel battalion, dont supposed you have a spare copy of either game? im itching to play on xbox live with a friend but have 2 controllers and only 1 game! and back onto topic, worst bargain for me was buying a copy of monkey island 1 and 2 off a carboot sale, only to find when i got home that the discs were missing! (now i always check the discs before i buy)
