I know somewhere in my house I still have a fully working Advent T9 PC from late 2003 which featured a somewhat retro (but fully working) ATi 9800XXL 128MB. (not my card but just an example of what it looks like). I've seen a couple of retro cards being sold on this forum, so would anybody be interested in this one? Also got a slightly old but still working Geforce 8800GTX 768MB up for grabs too. Edit: Just remembered got another retro laptop- Fujitsu Lifebook P2040. 800Mhz Transmedia Cruesoe, ATi Rage mobility 4MB! Even have the original case+ manual. I've had that out before, so it's on the table with the rest of the stuff aswell. (not my example either)
Best thing to do is look them up on ebay, see how common they are and how much they're going for. Old cards are still pretty easy to get a hold of, only boxed near mint cards fetch high prices if a collector is looking for them.
Although popular, my specific model cannot be found on eBay- all available ones are XLs and not XXLs. This is probably worth getting out and assessing the condition of, will get back with results!
I think i would be somewhat interested in the 8800gtx, i'm guessing it would be better than the radeon HD4200 (integrated into the motherboard, leeches system ram) which I am using at the moment
I have a rather interesting Nvidia card along this line. A 9800GT XR8 1024MB PE made by PNY. Has 2 DVI connectors, single width, SLI connector, and is PCI E x16 connected. Comes from around 2005 or 2006 if memory serves me right. Best part is no PCI power plugs needed. Powered straight from bus. Nothing special I'm sure...
IIRC the XL indicated a more budget card where as XT was the slightly fancier models. Might be able to crossflash or mod it as was common at the time.

Just wanted to check. Thanks a lot!

THe 8800GTS will kick the HD4200's butt in gaming." And thats the GTS, mines the GTX. PM'd
indeed i had a 9550 256mb card and was flashed with a 9600 pro or XT bios(cant recall which) and am x800gto2 again flashed bios and again i cant remember what it was flashed to but yeah it was all the rage back then, the thing the cool(and poor) kids done
If you have old video cards, put them to work! https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Mining_hardware_comparison (only half joking here)
Only just looked here, but I am so confused about Bitcoins. You mine..money? Who operates the mining server? Can't it be hacked? Can't you be given infinite monies by some friendly admin? So strange..
