MEh i never found load times to long. My isue with neo geo cd like a good example with fighting games is this. Load the game oo charater select load agan introducing so and so vs so and so lload agan then fight to roungs load so and so vs so and so load and repeate or if you die load the death screan then well you get the picture. With games like metal slug after ever stage load. Even with the faster cd loading screan the damn thing loads to much load times arent that bad tho imo. I say its only worth if want neo geo games with art work at a cheaper price then aes other wise even mvs carts only is way cheaper in the long run. I almost have a complete neo geo cd collection and i can say iv enjoyed my aes way much more becouse im not constantly getting a load screen just going strait to game play. The only think i like more about neo geo cd is games ware cheap but with a slight down fall. As for system never go with a front loader the games are a pain to get in and out becouse there no release button all done threw the system menue i hate that system. When it comes to top loader but metter less frustating to get my games out but same deal. WHen it comes to cdz your geting a system that could over heat easier for some what faster load times but your still constantly just seeing a freaking load screen. With neo geo cd you got a few exclusives as well but agan if you cant read japan its not worth it. There is like only 5 exclusive for the system. One of the exclusive realy isnt even a game its just an interactive demo disk. The other game is just a rpg of sam showdown but it was also released on saturn and ps1. Then there kof 96 collection which isnt even realy a game at all more like an interactive voice collection movie list show kinda thing if i explained it right.
Well do yourself a favor and just go get a consolised mvs if you want neo geo. this will save you not only money and time hunting games down but also load frustration of the cd system.
That's probably going to suit you better. If you are more about playing the games then you are going the most efficient route. If you enjoy also collecting them which involves sinking alot of money into a game collection, then it might make more sense to buy a Neo CD or AES or MVS.
There's nothing better than an MVS. Add a unibios and you've got all the features from the AES version as well as the real deal that hit the arcades back in the day. No loading times and the best games are all cheap. Even stuff like Mark of the Wolves, Metal Slugs, Blazing Star, Windjammers etc. are all well below the 100$ border (loose carts of course). I think a Neo CD is more of a collector's item nowadays. You can get the MVS carts for the same price as the CD versions minus the loading times. The few exclusive games aren't really worth mentioning anymore since there's they built a conversion cart of the only important exclusive, Choutetsu Brikin'ger. As far as I know, the Xbox can't output actual 280p (the original lowres that was used for old arcade games, i.e. Neo Geo), only upscaled 480i or similar. The result is a blurry picture even if you hook it up with an RGB cable to a RGB-capable CRT screen.
Correct. In fact the PS2 was the only one of the big three last gen consoles to support proper 240p (which makes it all the more frustrating when retro re-releases on that platform don't take advantage of it).
If you want it for collecting purposes go for it, other than that stick with MVS/AES systems, I´m not that big fan of emulators BTW...
There are some Neo Geo CD video's on Youtube that show the loading times for several games. Neo Geo hardware is nice, but I decided to go MVS after seeing those vids...
I found that the Saturn is a good start for SNK fighting games, and others. Most of the KOF ports are great and Metal Slug. Not all are as good, Waku Waku 7 for example. MVS is the best way to go, but plenty of people here will have a Saturn already.
