Hi there, I've been looking into Android phones for quite sometime. And people have been desiring the HTC Desire every time I ask them about Android phones. (Okay, pun intended there) But I'm not too sure if I want to spend my money on it just yet...

I mean don't get me wrong, I am after a good decent HTC phone with the Android system on there. But All I'm really looking for at the moment if maybe simple tasks like Twitter/Facebook/etc and maybe a few Game Emulators.

Should I really be getting a Desire or should I look at more older models like the Hero? Should I buy the Desire now, or would it be best if I wait a few months?

I'm really looking for opinions from many Android phone owners as possible, just to get a brief idea first before I buy such an expensive phone. Also one more thing, is there any Applications that might be worth looking into to help persuade me to go with the Desire?

I am an owner of a Desire and love the phone, but I don't know if would pay full price for it (got mine on a new contract)..

I played with a few more in the store, especially the Hero, and although it felt better constructed than the Desire it was nowhere near as snappy speed wise.

At the moment I cant recommend any specific application that would sell the Desire but I am sure that will change over the next few months. Also the update to Anroid 2.2 is supposed to be coming..

At least the desire will get an official update to 2.2 soon, which is a good reason to go for this phone.
The older HTC models didn't announce any official 2.2 update as far as I know.
So if you want your phone to last, I would go for it.

I am a desire owner, and must say I am very happy with this phone, I havn't found any flaws that I can share with you (yet)

Hell, I'd be happy with 2.1! I'm a Hero owner, and the update got pushed back to the end of this month at least, which, as I've probably said many times, pisses me off :banghead:
For that reason, even though I like the Hero, I would not recommend buying it now, get the Desire, it's probably way faster too.

If you lived in the states, I would recommend the DROID Incredible. I am now an owner of the Incredible but the specs are pretty awesome. I own the original T-Mobile G1 (HTC Dream). I am not too happy with it. You will see why if you look at the specs. I'll give a hint though. It’s slow and the storage space is so small. Oh and only Android 1.6.
To me the HTC Desire looks pretty good with the 1GHz snap dragon and the 576MB RAM but there is no internal flash memory storage. Too me that is a must. I'd wait.

(Yes I know the Desire has a MicroSD slot)
The app I use the most is Torrent-Fu.

Android 2.2 will enable you to install apps on the SD card...if the Desire gets updated, that is.

Yes, however app writers can specify that you cannot install to the SD card, though I believe by default you will have the option. I think you have to edit the package to make it only install to internal memory.

@7Force Didn't know that. Personally I'd rather have built in storage.
