would there be negative side effects of running mcfreeboot on a mod chipped ps2?

    hey i was just wondering if i could use mc free boot to run plugins and emulators and stuff and use the modchip (modbo 4.0 v1.93) to runbackups

    Not all modchips leave MAGIC GATE working properly so, not aways the case.

    About side effects ? None that I am aware of ... If it works, go for it.

    As with all Matrix Infinity clones and the original chip, yes.

    I have a mod chip installed and use FMCB on it and I have not noticed any ill effects. Infact that's how I make up new memory cards, using my chipped console

    I cant remember which chip I have but I can say its has a 3 on the chip like the 3 Mobile network logo in UK

    I think he was just stating that Magic Gate won't work for all chips I suppose..

    He was adding useful information to the topic. Apparently some modchips mess with MagicGate leaving it messed up, presumably for loading ELF files or something?

    Yah, they either patch too much on the mechacon (chips like the Magic series), or they screw up the boot rom with excessive patching (DMS3/DMS4) or even both.

    Some chips have quite light patching which don't disturb the magic gate stuff (like the old Mars 2 chip) at all but still leave stuff on kernel memory, which trips the "purify" protection on HDD DNAS games, for example ... The list goes long ...

    Also, a lot of these chips may conflict with homebrew that uses kernel memory or hook into the PS2 EE kernel (Open PS2 Loader or Kermit) for example...

    So even at the price of ~$70 back in the day the DMS4 still wasn't perfect? What exactly does the excessive patching result in?

    is there a homebrew disk i can just burn and throw in my ps2 and do it? i had a modified version of 007 agent under fire that wont load ( and i dont have the original disk , lost it ) any thing that will run off a disk? im goona check thepiratebay and see if anyone has made one.

    i could burn gameshark or something and do that i guess, or i could look at the formatting on this super mario collection disk i downloaded earlyer
