Would you play an anime styled RPG that plays like an Elder Scrolls game?

So now that I have a PC that is actually somewhat decent, I thought about going back and trying Morrowind and Oblivion with mod support. I already have a bit of experience with running mods on the xbox port of Morrowind, but running them on the PC obviously has much greater modding potential since the Xbox had limited resources. But looking through several mods I've noticed a common trend with both games - They all have a ton of Japanese (anime, video games, etc) inspired mods. I find this to be odd since most of the mods look straight up weird when placed in a western fantasy setting, but that had me thinking...

If going by that is any indication, it seems like there are many people that like the idea of a game that plays more like an Elder Scrolls styled WRPG, but looks and feels Japanese in origin. Think Elder Scrolls mechanics meets Final Fantasy aesthetics. There are already games made by Japanese studios that play like WRPGs (Demon's Souls, Dragon's Dogma), but those games also looked like WRPGs as well. And even then, those games didn't quite play like an Elder Scrolls game.

Would you be interested in a game like that?

this is how Final Fantasy 7 should be done if they were to ever remake it, a main story with the ability to do 100s of side quests at any point.

I have Oblivion on PC and used to play it quite a bit with mods - the mods made the game 1000 times better!

Even if it the game was anime styled I still will never play games like the Elder scroll games. I've tried them before and the whole gameplay mechanics felt slow and weird to me.

In the sense that there should be additional content? Sure, but if a FF7 remake were to happen I think most would prefer the game to stay largely the same.

What I'm referring to is basically a game that plays pretty much like Elder Scrolls, but looks like an anime or JRPG. Using Star Ocean lore as an example-

The game starts with you picking your race: Human Earthling, Fellpool, Lesser Fellpool, Featherfolk, Highlander, Expellian, Morphus, Eldarian, and others. Each have statistical advantages and disadvantages. Then you choose either male or female and what class you are. Then choose the background and name of your character. Same basic gameplay. Same first person combat with an option to switch to third person. Same basic controls. Main story to complete at your leisure while doing tons of other optional quests.

Or, try playing or watching the first 30 minutes of an Elder Scrolls game, but mentally replace everything with an anime art style.

I just wonder if there is a market for something like that. A lot of JRPG fans online always complain about how boring WRPGs are because of the non-linear gameplay and emphasis on custom character role-playing rather than a straightforward story with set playable characters (plus the battle system, music, and other differences found in both). One would think that meant most JRPG fans don't like WRPGs, or if they do like both, they'd rather them both be different and not play like the other one. Yet if that was the case, why are there so many anime inspired mods for Morrowind and Oblivion (and I think Skyrim as well)? It's almost as if JRPG fans want to play an open world first person anime RPG, but the only way they can is to mod a WRPG, which looks extremely out of place for each individual mod unless the entire game is aesthetically overhauled to go with it.

Not sure how the average exclusive JRPG or WRPG fan would react to it, but I'd be willing to try it.

Funny, I was just watching some Attack on Titan mods for Skyrim on Youtube. Kind of basic but if someone were to do a total conversion (like Project Brazil for New Vegas) then there is some true potential for awesomeness.

Great anime BTW. Lives up to the hype.

There are plenty of anime-style mods for oblivion, skyrim and even for the new fallout series

You could take those and create your own mod-as-a-game, like the first dota

Depends on the franchise I guess. I've always wanted to see a respectable Robotech game.

The TES (redundant) mod community has a problem. The official outlets to get mods... say Bethsoft, Nexus or Steam Workshop has rules. They do not allow for certain things. Copyrighted names can't be used even for a mod that is free. This goes back to when someone tried to make a Dragonball Z mod for Quake 3 and got sued over it. So the big time mod sites do not allow IP infringing mods.

So aside from that, there are dark mod sites that do host these infringing mods, but in addition to that mods that use parts from other games. Bethsoft won't even let you use a mesh or texture from Oblivion or FO3 in Skyrim for example. But you can find them on the shady sites.

So making a TC of Skyrim to match up some anime series (or a mashup like Segagaga) isn't going to happen. In order for it to be popular enough to be worthwhile, you need to get it on the legit sites. But making a brand new game with similar mechanics? Sure. For me TES games are enjoyable for finding items and playing with the physics engine. Stealing people's forks and building pillow houses. Actually Skyrim changed the engine to make this not as fun as previous games, but it is what it is.
