Check that specialy the bit where it says that if a cheque has cashed doesnt mean its ok. Trust me when i say no one wants 4 of those crappy things specialy when they are giving you $300... Its a scam and your going to get taken.

    Another one to look at...

    see where they say:

Requiring banks to give full disclosure of the true time period for check clearance to the customer

Setting a time period, such as 30 days, in which by law all banks must verify the funds are good on all cashier's checks. Any issues with the check after this time period are the responsibility of the bank.

Try and find out by law in america by when your cheque becomes truly good...

Ladies: Unless the bank system has changed in the last 5 years (which I doubt it has) checks in the US clear in 2-3 weeks tops. Deposit the check, but have someone at the bank tell you when it clears. When it clears, it clears. You cannot get ripped off. At this time, send him the DS's.

    Don't do it, it's a scam.

This scam DOES still work, people do it on craigslist for cars all the time.

Just because the $$$ show up in your account, you are not in the clear. Your bank WILL come back after YOU, not him, for the difference.

Unless you immediately close the account and change banks, but that'd just make you look shady to them, and they'd probably charge you with fraud.

    It has.

Check Clearing for the 21st Century Act

also, the way these scams work is that, in fact, you _can_ get ripped off even if the check clears.. if the check is stolen or fraudulent, the account holder can contest the charges to their account and have the transfer of funds reversed, even up to 6mos later, at which point you'll find yourself without the DSes, and with $900 of _your_ money took out of your account.

Hence my post "wait for it to clear". Clearing doesn't mean that it shows up in your account. It means that it clears through HIS bank. If it's a fraudulent check, most likely it won't. THis isn't to say that it's not a scam though. I just think most poeple don't realize it can take checks 3 weeks to clear, which is how they pull it off.

Whatever happened to the P-p-p-power book site? Is the guy who did it in jail or something for the best prank ever?

No offence mate, but I think you'd be bit stupid to pay this cheque in. Is the buyer's emails in PERFECT english or are there a spelling and grammer mistakes etc. This is another way to identify fraudsters.

If it seems too good to be true - then it usually is!
