This has only started recently on my Genesis. Sometimes when loading ROMs designed for my region, I get a region error. This console particularly isn't modified. http://youtu.be/KC52F89RnY4 Any ideas on what could be causing this? Yes this video is originally for another purpose, but at the beginning it shows this odd flaw.
Hmm, 25% it thinks my console is Japanese. i just tried playing a authentic mk3 cartridge and got the same error so it seems its my console and not the ever drive. Quite weird. I wonder what's failing in the genesis, caps?
prehaps, open it up and have a look if the caps are gone then may be able to see straight away swelling or leaking, but i'd check the usual like dry joints give it a good clean inc the cart slot, was it playing the MK3 cart previously?
My Genesis won't always play games correctly. Only issue is some games from other regions won't play. Methinks the Megakey in my EDMD is a bit faulty. I got around this with the now classic "4 region, single switch mod". Set the console to the region of game that's stubborn (typically PAL), start it up, switch to either NTSC or JAP, ..., profit? GAME! BTW, the Genny is a revision 2 model 3 for anyone who cares.
My Genesis won't even play real cartridges like MK3 sometimes now, when it's a non-modified console. These cartridges are correct region for my system. At this point, I don't feel it's a megakey issue , it's clearly something else that's going wrong here.
