As the memory card ports are both knackered on both my PS2s at the same time for some reason. So obviously I want them working. I don't think model number/console region matters, but just in case they are: SCPH-50003 (PAL) and SCPH-10000 (NTSC J).

Preferably from the UK to keep costs down.

There's a marginal difference in the quality and also the way the units actually fit together. I might have some kicking about. Let me check. They'll be free.

    Nice one mate

As long as they fit and work I'm not too bothered.

Np! Just noticed you sent a PM on this as well. Will catch you soon about it, I have a dead PS2 in the loft. Harder to get the exact one for the Japanese unit. Will confirm via PM asap!

I opened both of them up and i see what you mean about the differences. The PAL unit has tape over the IC clip on the controller PCB side, guess that explains why that ones not working properly. Not sure why the 10000s not working though, didn't look to be anything wrong with it. Strange that its just the memory card ports not working (at least it should be, one of the memory cards I have is brand new) I don't have much luck with PS2 controller pcbs :banghead:

I did find the interesting mod on the 10000 though. I'm no expert on mods (this is the only console I have with any kind of mod) but are they meant to be this messy? Looks like it has chuddy on it!

Looks like another beautifully chipped unit to me - the kind of messy mod that tends to lead to hardware issues. I tend to remove them when / if I find them tbh.

Found 1 controller PCB for you - not sure why the memory card port would be faulty though, it tends to be the controller ports that go due to heavy usage. On memory cards you just slot them and leave them.

Have you checked with other cards? I mean to have 1 port go wrong is strange enough, but 2 at the same time. Tends to point at the common denominator to me - the card!

    Let me know.

Yeah I thought it might be the card, so I bought a brand new one, which also doesn't work. I will have another check when I get home tonight though just to make sure.

The only other thing I can think of is if the PS2 sends a current into the pcb and this has somehow crossed wires and fried the cards?? My original mem card did work at one point.

Oh and about the mod - I've had no issues so far, bar the loading of PAL games - it doesn't like them and its quite often the machine has to be reset for them to work. The drive also becomes very noisy. This might be because iirc my PAL games are all blue CDs. I'll likely be selling this once I get round to getting a PSX!

Did you manage to check if you had any pcbs around yet mate? I tried the cards in all different slots and no joy!

Pulled one, so you definately have one PCB. Still looking for the older version for you.

There were fuses on the boards, but I think they dealt with the controller more than the mem card slot.

Your noisy one has a bad lens. You could try cleaning it but it won't last forever. If it is an R model then the noise is a misaligned part... can't remember the cure off the top of my head.

I would be willing to have a look free-of-charge, or download the PS2 Tool guide as the DVDrom is similar (not exactly the same) and details how to realign trays and mechanism.

    :)

Cannot find the older PCB. You still want the newer PCB? I could even send the entire PS2 unit if you wanted a pile of spare parts. Think it only needed a new lens, but with 3 working PS2 units here it's not worth the hassle for me.

Will PM you about it Parris.

I think the JAP one is on its way out, has started to randomly freeze during loading, sometimes goes back to the disc selection after selecting it in the first place. Memory card slot 1 seems to intermittantly appear on the dash now, though still can't read or write during games. On the dash it appears as a blank card, even though (fingers crossed) there should be saves on it. Had a fairly good run on it, not surprising its on its way out.

Correct, if that fuse is blown/missing then you will be unable to use the rumble functionality of the controller. Also, some 3rd party peripherals may not work if that fuse is blown/missing. I have a Smartjoy Frag ( keyboard & mouse converter) that absolutely will not work without that fuse.
