I am looking for a 21.477272 MHz crystal oscillator for my white PC Engine, please let me know if you have one to sell or know a source. Any help appreciated.

Hi, thanks for your reply..no I'm pretty sure it has up to 6 legs from looking at the board, it is the same as the one in this pic:

Yeah, thats what I thought you meant - but when I googled about the what the PCE uses, I got a different answer =/

Pretty sure those are 4 legs and I don't have those, sorry :(

A crystal has 2 legs, oscillators have 3 or more, this is an oscillator. Oscillators have crystals and numerous other parts finely tuned inside the package to give a theoretically ideal clock signal and they can be dropped into any circuit with the appropriate supply voltage. Crystals on the other hand don't care about voltage, but can't simply be dropped into new circuits because when a crystal is cut it's measured against a specific series or parallel load capacitance. This will change in every circuit so when you drop a new crystal into a circuit the frequency can be very off--it's important to either get new crystals made for the right series or parallel load capacitance, or install a trimmercap on the load to tweak the frequency. So it's probably not a great idea to sell unknown color carrier crystals Bad; any color carrier circuit should be accurate within <10 ppm or something, and unless the circuit has a trimmer (and the modder/repairer knows to use it) it won't be. NES/Famicom do have a trimmer, but the load might be series or parallel (the PCB supports either) and if you have the wrong cut of crystal the trimmer might not be enough to pull the frequency within tolerance.

Buying a 21.477272 oscillator is almost impossible. There probably won't be another source for them in the future because someone will have to order 1000s to have them produced (and if they do, it won't likely be in that package), plus there's even less demand because new products with the same frequency requirements can generally use very common 14.318181 oscillators and multiply them by 1.5 with a PLL.

I found a post of yours calling it an xtal here - http://www.assemblergames.com/forums/showthread.php?34472-PAL-PC-Engine-conversion-Can-it-be-done

Hence asking for clarification - op said oscillator, googling and finding your post says xtal (crystal) with mamjay following up saying he will source the crystal - getting clarification with conflicting information is sensible. The crystals I have, have been used in the 1chip 50/60hz mod done by ikari without issue, which is the only thing I sell them with.

    Edit:

    Ebay turns up this:

At the time I didn't know it was a canned oscillator.

And I stand corrected about the availability--get them while they're available. They must have been recently produced.

We all make mistakes - but I am just explaining why I wanted clarification when the op called it an oscillator, rather than just saying I didn't have any to start with :)

Yes sorry, I should have explained that I got a pce which had the pal modulator mod and was missing the oscillator: http://www.assemblergames.com/forum...RF-Modulator-Removal-RGB-Mod-Need-Help-Please
I got the terms confused as whilst searching I happened on that same thread which referred to the part as an Xtal.
Thank you both for the info, if they are that hard to find I will probably just buy a badly tanned pce for as cheap as possible and swap either the oscillator or the cases and redo the RGB mod on the new board.

I got 2 lots, I am pretty sure the op got the other. (it had 1 lot sold when I found the link, shortly after the op noticed my link it went to 4).

So I will have 20 of them

    Hi again,
I got a message from the seller say that only 6pc's were in stock, so he can only send me 6.
Would be interested to know if anyone else got a similar message?
