I have a winbond TSOP that I flashed a few years ago with gentoo. I did not realize that it was a winbond and it screwed the TSOP up! I was flashing X2 5035 frosty VGA bios. After that I just used a X3 modchip. Well now I need that X3 for a much better project! I have tried the hotswap with a x2.6 running the Evox d6 TSOP bios a bunch of times with no luck. I have done a few successful hot swap with other motherboards in the past. It is a version 1.0 with the 128 RAM upgrade so I want to fix this motherboard!

If you want to sell a 29 wire mod chip please let me know! I do not even know what they are worth or if there is different versions and what is the best version to have?

I bet it is a pain to install for a few seconds of flashing pleasure!

You can also wire in an EPROM if it's a 1.0 or 1.1 board. Don't know if anyone ever created wiring guides for the others.

I have two 29 wire modchips but I bought them as collection pieces. Not sure I'd want to part with them.

I have another motherboard that is damaged but has the same winbond TSOP that is already flashed with X2 5035. I can just remove that TSOP and add it to this board with no problem?

Will the motherboard boot from the LPC with a X2.6 mod chip with NO TSOP on the board at all?

TSOP swap should work no problems.

Not sure about booting without a chip. Probably will though.

Modchips completely replace the use of the TSOP chip anyway doesn't it? So likely it would.

All the newish ones do, which is why you can't hotswap and flash. The old, first gen chip was more like an "overlay," so it could be used for recovery. You would boot, cut a line and then reflash the actual TSOP.

Yes, but I dont like to say "it will work" if I am not 100% certain, or if I haven't actually tried it myself.

    Like to be accurate :)

    Only for 1.0

You can DIY a "29 wire" modchip with an eprom and reflash the tsop like that.

So the matrix will only flash a 1.0 motherboard? what about the 1.1? When ever I read about setting and modes it seems that the 1.0 and 1.1's are always grouped together. I know that there are some changes to the motherboard.

The only reason I got into this mess was the fact that I forgot it had a winbond to start with. Could I swap the TSOP with a non winbond? I know you said that it would work with another winbond TSOP. Also are the TSOPs specific to version of motherboard or can I use a 1.1 TSOP on my 1.0 board?

Sorry I did not mean to double post! It was a complete different question and I forgot that I just posted a question!

I already posted the second post. When I realized what I did I went back and edited the post saying that I was sorry for the double post. That was not a statement that I was double posting.

Bad_AD, Is the DYI 29 wire mod chip 2 posts up the style you were talking about? Also will that work on other versions besides the 1.0?

Probably, I mentioned that too. That uses a regular EPROM programmed with a XBox BIOS you wire in just like a 29 wire mod. I've got install instructions all the way up to 1.4/1.5 in a PDF but I can't verify they're good. It came from XBox-Scene so I assume it's valid.

And I can program you an EPROM if you want.
