I'm looking for an HDD for an NTSC Xbox 360 console. 120 or 250 GB only. I just care if it's in good working condition and isn't going to die on me like the day I get it.

Also. I'll need the transfer cable, and the cd for it.

    FYI the drives aren't regionalized.

You can get any official drive and it'll work.

And so long as you're using 9199 or higher you don't need the transfer cable CD.

I really don't have the money to waste on a brand new drive. I'm willing to buy one used if anyone has a spare they have.

Not to derail this too greatly, but if you're looking for cheap:

    1) Grab an old 20GB drive.
    2) Get a 250GB WD.
    3) Copy the security sector to the WD.
    4) Assemble drive with WD in it.
    5) Enjoy!

It's pretty simple and about half the cost of buyin an official drive.

Think you can link me to an HDD on that would work? Also, what tools would I need to copy the security sector to it? Also, can I get banned for it? If so, what are the chances of getting banned for doing so.

I have a 60 GB and a 20 GB HDD. I just like installing my games to the HDD, so I want more room.

This 360 is for Xbox Live, and I'd rather not put it in any risk of being banned.

The WD BEVS drives are the line to get, IIRC.

Start a thread in the Xbox 360 section and you'll get people jumping in to help.

No one has ever been banned for using a third party hard drive. Only thing is you are limited to just the official sizes (so you have to buy a WD 120 or WD 250 drive). Can't get say a 300 or 500GB drive and expect it to work on a retail.

You can buy a drive larger than 250 GB and use it on your 360. The caveat is that you still have to format it to 250GB. Same applies to 120GB, 60GB, and 20GB drives.

As has been stated, nobody has ever been banned for using a third party hard drive, but that doesn't mean they can't or won't in the future. Furthermore, since you can move hard drives between consoles, they'd likely ban your gamertag because if you have a hacked hard drive who knows if you have modified gamesaves, falsified achievement points, etc.

The safe route is to buy a retail drive and not worry. However, if you want to save some money but take a slight risk, the option is there to hack. Hope this helped.

I am no expert but someone on DP was banned for a modded HDD. Used 360 HDDs are cheap enough without any risk of that. I think we sell the 120 gb for $65 at our store.

You can get banned for gamerscore/profile modding, but not for using an unofficial hard drive.

And you can do the gamerscore/profile modding on a regular drive.

If someone's getting banned, it's for a lot more than just using a non-Microsoft hard drive.

Well that is what he said. Was he lying? I have no idea.
Why not go right to the source?

I wouldn't do it without hearing those words directly from Microsoft. If you read the user agreement you can clearly see that modding a hard drive would certainly allow them to ban you should they choose to. Will they choose to do so? Only they can answer that.

Haha, next thing you know, MS is going to come out with the 360 HDD Elite series for their hard drives. They'll pop in slightly more expensive 7200 RPM drives, jack the price up, and advertise it'll improve load times, that it's for the extreme gamer or something.
