Hey guys, I am looking for Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard install DVDs, CDs, whatever, that work on PPC Macs. Boxed, Unboxed, any condition as long as they work.

Actually, I don't even care if they are pirated. I just need the install files so I can install it on my iBook G4, and I don't have enough download quota to get it because I fail too hard.

I need them cheap and quick, and any help/offers are very much appreciated.

He doesn't have enough quota remaining...

    EBay link

Contact the seller, they may end the auction early for you.

I have copies (and yes I have the original, but I'm holding on to that one) but shipping to Australia might be slower than you'd probably want...

Good luck with this one, from what I could tell, that is the most sought after Mac OS disk since its the most recent one for powerpc's (and the only one that will install on either intel or powerpc, since tiger had to be bought for either/or and snow leopard is intel only). So it will probably not be cheap.

Yeah, the G4 can only take up to leopard. Cyber, would you be able to send me one of those copies? I've been unable to source one locally. Just gimme a postage price :)

It's funny, its cheaper to call apple and get them to sell you a copy than on ebay (yes apple still stocks them, for 120aud though). I don't really want to pay that much for an OS a couple of years old. Hell, Lion is like half the price XD

Also I am using obselete powerpc's because A: They're awesome (got a Bondi Blue G3 :p) B: I found the iBook for 30 dollars, and its great. Just want it a bit more up to date so I can run more recent apps.

Sure I'll let you know how much postage is as soon as I can. Pretty sure it wont be much considering its just a disk.

And btw, I also love old macs (I like old computers, but mostly macs) Got my last ibook g4 for the same price, $30 too. and my main desktop is actually a Powermac G4, by choice, not because I have to since I have much newer intel machines.

I love them too, I would love a Mac plus (the old boxy monochrome one), but my mac purchases are just opportunistic ones. The G3 was free, but was the machine only, so I got the keyboard/mouse from a local primary school. I saw the G4 at the markets and the guy was like "oh its 30 bucks" and I was just like "SHUT UP AND TAKE MY MONEY." I don't actually use the G3 because its only on 10.3.9 and is basically useless to me for anything, besides playing mame with its CRT (which I do still do sometimes), as the iBook takes it place.

My previous laptop was a crappy Pentium 3 IBM Thinkpad (top of the line for it's day, good times :D) running Xubuntu, so the iBook was a great replacement. I'm more a desktop kind of guy so I didn't need to upgrade XD. The iBook does most things the new MacBooks can do but is about 1 grand cheaper, so that was very pleasing.

There are only 2 parts of the iBook that truly annoy me. 1: The battery life is about 1 and 3/4 hours, due to about 300 charging cycles being done before I bought it, and 2: the fact that the hard drive is only 30gb, and it only takes 2.5" IDEs, which are not particularly common, and there are like 50 steps to replace the hard drive anyway. Other than that, I love it to bits already. Just needs that extra kick up the backside with leopard to make it worth using regularly.

Sorry it took so long to get back, but it seems that shipping is going to be no less than $13 via usps. If someone close to you wouldn't mind downloading the image from me and then burning it and posting it to you from within Australia, it would probably be a better alternative.

I've just noticed that my disk is somewhat scratched anyway...

On an unrelated note, does anyone know how long it should take to send a small flat rate priority mail box to Germany? I sent it on the 2nd and it still hasnt arrived. The person is getting agitated...

So thats just economy postage in a small box? Jesus thats a lot. I bought a boxed N64 game from the UK and the postage was only about half the price! Hell, I got offered a Super Famicom, and the postage was 11GBP surface postage, which was only 16AUD! Whats up with your postage prices? XD

Don't know how long it would take to get to Germany. I know economy from Europe to Australia is anywhere from 3 to 4 weeks if that helps.

Looking at your USPS postage calculator @ http://ircalc.usps.gov at the moment. Doesn't have to be in a box, just a decently padded envelope so the disc doesn't crack, but discs don't break particularly easily anyway. I'll see if I can get a better price.

EDIT: Damn you and your imperial measurements! Why can't you just use centimetres instead of inches like normal people! XD

EDIT: Okay, you're right. Came down to about the same price. Blimey thats expensive. I'll try to source it from somewhere else, hopefully an Australian on this forum. Your postage price is still about 100 dollars cheaper than a legal copy XD So it's still a possibility if all else fails.

Need another seller, preferably Australian/from South East Asia. Any of you guys up there ^^^^ got one?

Sadly I can't help but before you sort this out is the machine 1GHZ+?

I hacked Leopard onto my 800Mhz iMac G4 (best looking machine ever) and it runs, but not fantastically and there are a few graphical errors.

Might wanna make sure it's worth your time before you start handing out cash.

Yeah, I've already done all the research. Early 2004 iBook G4 1.2ghz. It has 768mb ram, trying to find a cheap PC2700/2100 1gb stick to bump it up to its max, 1.25gb ram. Leopard should run fine on the current setup. I would not try installing it on an 800mhz G4, don't think it would work too well XD

Agreed about the iMac G4, it's my favorite looking computer so far. I have the 20" 1.25Ghz usb 2.0 model. And also, I had leopard on a 500MHz powerbook. Was slow but not unusable, but that was definitely outdated hardware. The official requirements for leopard are 867MHz+ and at least 512mb ram, Though it can be installed on any G4 and boot with at least that amount of ram.

Yeah... Good. I'd make a backup, I like to restore the image to a firewire capable iPod and boot from that.

Its not easy to rip in windows :\ just made a DMG in disk utility on the ibook. I'll prolly go and buy a DVD-DL soon to burn it too. for now it can sit on my external hard drive.
