    WTB: Commodore 64 Misc

EDIT: Found a machine, perfectly willing to accept offers of software (especially carts) and accessories.

Prefrebly in the USA, of course, to save on shipping, but depending on the price after shipping, I'll take it from anywhere.

Doesn't have to look good. In fact, dirty and gross is better, I love projects. Don't want a collector's piece with the box and all that crap! No monitor needed. Floppy drive a plus, though I know they probably weigh a ton.

    Even broken ones, parts, etc!

I know you've got one of these in your basement/mother's basement/under your cat.

I've got piles of vic, 65, 128 parts, software, a few carts, etc.. anythign in particular you're looking for?

I do have a number of drives, but as you say, they do weigh a ton- my suggestion is to invest in a 1581 drive (or drive kit) - makes archiving software a lot easier on modern floppies...

For softwares... I'd say I'll start with the miscelaneous, random crap... cheap, common stuff. I feel I should nab a cart for testing purposes. But then if I'm going to spend money, I should get stuff I would actually use/play, eh?
Got any sweet cart games, or useful peripherals/carts?

How much DOES a 1541 weigh? If you want to shoot me some prices for random useful stuff (ballpark is OK) (remember I don't own anything yet, just a C64C that supposedly boots fine is on it's way) that'd be awesome. I'd hate to make you go through the effort of listing crap, but... I figure I'll ask!

And yes, it looks as though I really should just grab a 1581... but it's hard to justify a $50 floppy drive. :icon_bigg
And then, after doing a lot of reading today, I find that I can slap together a cable ("X1541"/"XE1541"?) with a DIN on one end and a parallel port on the other, then with the correct software.... Bing!? Shouldn't be too much of a problem. Though I should definitely get a drive anyways at some point.
(actually what I really need to do is sell some stuff so I feel justified buying more stuff... but that's another story altogether!)

I have tons of software for the C64 at home. I will make a list for you tonight and send it over.

I am in England though so postage may be a killer.

Hm- I'll dig around and see what games on cart I can turn up.. my C128D is currently using my fastload cart so that's out ;) ... I hear the cable method is worthwhile, but I've never dealt with it myself.. still using original hardware from my childhood personally...
There's some nice projects out there to facilitate modern computing- I'd check out the IEC-ATA projects.. i think someone was selling little project-boxable boards with sd card interface that support iecata's emulation of a 1541... hm.. I'll get you a shipping quote for a 1541- any preference if its a 1541, 1541c, 1541-ii?

Whichever would be the cheapest? I'd hope the later miiiight be lighter.
I like the look of the original the best, but the size and the fact that I've got a 'c on the way means maybe I should make it all match or something.
but then price is really the only point I'm looking at.

Do you really have such a surplus that I'd have a choice? :D More importantly, do you have surplus of junk parts and such? (Reminds me, I need to find a breadbox box so I can look like a badass)

    Sweet, thanks!

As a quick update, I received my Commodore in the mail and it seems to have the semi-ambiguous "black screen" problem (possibly PLA chip, less likey the RAM or something else).
Also scored a brand new 1541 on the cheap, so that problem is solved.

The seller of my unit said it passed what they called a "power on test", which I guess technically the it DOES turn on, but... such lack of functionality should probably be mentioned. I hope we can straighten it out.

It also has a larger motherboard than I expected... either the early 64Cs still had the large boards, or this one has been swapped. I'm no expert!

Without a load (multimeter only) my power supply seems to be lacking it's 5V output. Under load (multimeter on the power jack, probing from the inside) the 5v seems to be there, but the two 9VAC lines seem to be putting out only 5VAC.

Not to turn this into a troubleshooting thread, just figured I'd toss it out there!

Anyways, the important part is that in the mean time, I'll still be looking for another working C64.
