I am looking for a GD-R writer, if anyone has one for sale or can get me one i will be very grateful. :icon_bigg By the way, do you need a SDK for the Katana dev kit to burn GD-Rs because the Dev kit im buying does not come with one.

Yes, you do. The writing is part of GD-Workshop which is used for accessing the emulation portion of the kit as well as the GD-ROM drive.

There's also an application called CDCraft. I'm not sure what that does, but I'd image it's another writing utility. It could even be the application GDWorkshop calls. I'm not too familiar with that portion.

Also, as I already mentioned, you'll need the SDK for accessing the emulation portion of the kit (part that loads games from the internal hard drive). You'll also need it to reset the flash if your system needs it.

Make sure you have the right SCSI card + cable. (Recommended card is the Adaptec AHA2940 with a male HD50-pin connector. If you go for the AHA2940UW you'll need a male HD50-pin to male HD68-pin cable.)

I have a scsi 50 pin male cable and i have bought a Adaptec AHA2940U PCI card from my PC. I dont know what information is on the disk i own but the katana dev kit im buying apparently has a lot of data on the hard drive so i hope that if its good data, i will try to aquire a SKD and compile and burn any current valuable information.

Edit: Blank GD-Rs are not a rpoblem i have 5 of them

May I enquire whether the Katana in question is currently owned by someone else in the UK and as yet the deal is not 100% secure (if you catch my drift)? The only reason I ask is that I asked about that particular kit too (and I know a couple of other people were interested in it too) and the current owner was rather vague about the contents of the hard drive. Too vague for my liking. He initially suggested that the drive had "lots of information on it", but then went on to mention that certain recovery software might be able to (or possibly not) retrieve the information stored on it.

Covering his back is my guess JUST in case it turns out to be either totally blank or completely corrupt or something.

I'd love to think it contained some hidden gem! Good luck with it though and I think I can see why the GD-writer might be of use to you ;-)

I'd only write to a GD-R if the data is rare. I'd suggest you first carefully remove the hard drive and hook it up to your PC through the SCSI host adapter. Follow my guide here (link) for the software you might want to try to recover the data. Backing it up this way ensures there were no errors in the write, etc. You can also go on to write it to regular CD-Rs or DVD-Rs.

One thing you may encouter with the data on the hard drive is that you need to recreate the sessions in GD-Workshop by creating a new project and reestablishing the disc layout. This will allow you to boot them in emulation mode.
