I recently got ahold of a Dina 2-in-1 for my anniversary. Being the dumbshit that I am, I assumed it would take the same power as an NES. Yeah, it was a risk and one that didn't pan out. Snap, crackle, pop! and a rich smoky aroma danced in my nose. Fuck.

Anyone out there handy with a soldering iron and have knowledge on how to fix what I fried? And if anyone else has one of these bad mothers, what is the voltage on the AC adapter?

California, USA, whatever seems fair. Local places are claiming $50-60. For that I could try repairing myself

$50-60 is pretty fair for a shop, but they'd probably just replace the blown capacitor and call it a day without testing.

You would definitely be best off trying yourself; likely you'll just need a 47uF capacitor, a 7805 regulator and a cheap soldering iron from Radioshack (~$12 grand total).

If that doesn't do it, some logic is damaged which can be tricky to diagnose. You could bring/send it somewhere with a Colecovision for parts and they'd likely fix it, but it'd cost you.

You seem to know quite a bit yourself. Let me ask you this.

I opened it up and Found the 7805 regulator. It appears a chunk of it broke off when I fried it. If I replace that with the same part, are there multiple versions/voltage, or is that specific part set for a specific power? Internals are so greek to me. I think it's time to take my ass back to college and learna few more skills. =(

If there are any fuses on the way to the 7805, you may have blown those too.

I'm not sure but IIRC the NES AC adapter is around 10 volts AC (your Dina probably only takes DC like most electronics)

More or less all 7805s are the same. The one you need is in a TO-220 package, I believe RadioShack should still carry them.
