As the title states, I am currently looking for a Famicom Disk backup unit for one of my disks. If there is a cheap unit/method for doing this, please send me a message.

Will the reader allow me to dump the data from a disk? Unfortunately, I'm not too familiar with how to dump Famicom disk data.

Very nice and informative review! Is there anywhere that offers the attachment cable without having to make one myself?

I managed to purchase the two A/V cables. Are there any instructions for the wire cutter size, soldering, etc, that you used?

Did you make sure they were fully populated? They need to have all the pins but one in the top middle. Normal AV cables aren't gonna have all the pins. I had to destroy 3 Nintendo AV cables to populate one end, the other was an actual FDS end so only needed one connector

Correct, I was able to make the cord successfully by not connecting all 6 of the pins, but only 5, as you mentioned. I also just used some wire cutters and electronic tape to make the wires instead of soldering, which was nice. I tested it with the FDSStick I purchased and the FDS finally powered up...but, the only problem now is I have to replace my belt in the FDS disk, so a new belts are on their way now.

I was curious, but if you use the A/V cables instead of two RAM cables, will the data read by the FDSStick have any subtle differences? In other words, with less pins, will some data not be extracted from the disk?

Thanks for all your help too, guys.

Phantasy it needs to be the same as the ram adapter bud, count the pins..... less pins = no work.

From what I recall the FDS is a slightly modified standard 2.8"?? floppy that can be backed up with standard drives that fit it. Someone realized that a synth keyboard used the same disks but there is a physical mechanism that stops you from inserting the disks.

Do your research, might be cheap.

    EDIT: QuickDIsk. That's it.

Yea, it's easy to remove the front of the drive and make them fit, but an fds drive is cheaper than destroying an AKAI, that BTW are worth buku bucks. Phantasy if you fail at backing up your stuff I'm more then willing to do it for you. Ask the guys on the shoutbox if you need some proof of my rep. I wouldn't charge ya to do it. I'm getting home tomorrow afternoon so I can finally take pics of how my cable is pinned so you can do it right
