US WTB - FM Towns Marty - found!

Need to find a nice cosmetic condition Marty for the second season of my YouTube channel. Going through the roster of esoteric consoles.

No box needed, just console and controller. Would like good cosmetic condition since it will be on camera.

Anyone have one they are willing to sell?

You might have better luck going to a proxy service and bid on yahoo auctions. Expect to pay 300$ for the machine by itself or more if it has accessories. Plus about $150 in shipping and proxy fees if you want it to get here in the same shape it was in Japan.

 

I’ve looked on yahoo japan auctions. Only ones available are listed as “junk” and untested. Not looking for a repair job unfortunately.

There is one for sale on eBay but it ships from Mexico and the only shipping service is the seller is offering is economy and it will take over a month. Don’t trust that one either lol

 

Junk in Japan is the same as Used in America. Not the same meaning there as English speakers would use the term. Generally it means something that has normal wear and tear. My experience is it all works. My only problem has been the packaging and handling. You have to pay a lot to get it quick and undamaged. There are two listed right now and 2 more that closed yesterday. You will see between 1 and 4 units listed every month. They all sell. I'm trying to get one too. As they say, No risk = No reward.

 

Funnily enough, the word "junk" does often mean junk when it comes to FM Towns Marty consoles, they're surprisingly unreliable. I used to buy them to restore and repair for selling on eBay (still do but not as often!), and something like 80% have totally dead floppy drives - a little over a third of them have CD drive problems too. Most can be fixed by replacing capacitors but that doesn't always work, and it can be extremely annoying to correctly diagnose them.
