As the title says, I'm in need of a Freeloader (NTSC-J) compatible with Panasonic Q so I can use my NTSC-U and PAL games on it.

Used or new, I don't mind, it just has to be in working conditions.

Shipping would be to Montevideo, Uruguay - 11300.

    I can pay through PayPal.

    Thanks in advance,

    Tchoin.-

    Bump!

Anyone? If someone comes across an eBay link, that works too... Haven't found any though...

Nintendo (Japan) should still sell these, I know they do in other countries in very limited stock.

    Nintendo wouldn't sell Freeloaders. ;)

    No prob :p

Thing is I can only find Freeloaders for use on NTSC-U or PAL consoles but not the other one, for NTSC-J. Damn hard to find !

Tchoin, you can grab a NTSC-U copy of freeloader, and add the region switch to the Panasonic Q to boot up the IPL in USA mode as opposed to JAP and you're golden.

    It's what I do on mine :p

You mean modding it with the Qoob chip?

I don't know, I really suck at modding and wouldn't want to risk my Panny Q in the process.

That's why I'm looking for an NTSC-J copy of the Freeloader.

No chip needed for a JPN<->US region switch on a GC board.

It's a basic jumper. As easy as a Saturn region mod.

I'm not sure about the Q board layout, but the pins are super easy to find on a standard GC. Shouldn't be difficult to track down on a Q.

There were hints in some places but I finally found the confirmation: The Freeloader disc is region free.

    http://www.ntsc-uk.com/tech.php?tech=FreeloaderGuide
So, you should be fine with a US copy (PAL will display in 50Hz) but I read that only the latest release, i.e. 1.06B, will also work on the Q. Maybe emu_kidid can confirm this?

I thought the same though my Q doesn't read any of my Freeloaders. I've got one of the first copies and a 1.06B one, that one says "For use on U.S. Console" and I've seen variants, for PAL and NTSC-J.

@ hl718: That seems easy... I might search a bit for that over the web and see what I can find. If it's just a jumper then no prob, I thought emu_kidid was talking about the Qoob modchip.

If you can do entry level soldering it's cake.

Here are two links detailing the process.

The first shows the points for a Japanese GC in detail (I'm assuming that a Q will have the same jumper block, possibly in a similar config).

    http://www.oratan.com/projects/gcn_mod.html

The second details the entire process a bit more and shows the jumper configs for both US and JPN systems.

    http://www.gamesx.com/importmod/ngcmod.htm

While this mod won't let you play PAL region games, it will let you swap between JPN and US games at will. Do remember however, that you can only switch when the system is OFF.

    Hope this helps.

Well, funny story, I found my old Freeloader 1.06b disc, which is full of scratchs among other things, and voila! It worked on the Panny Q on the first try... while the latest version of the Freeloader didn't!

It seems the newer versions are region locked (lol... but is true, you can see they sell NTSC-U, NTSC-J and PAL Freeloaders now a days) while the older versions aren't.

Anyway, mods feel free to lock this baby up as I no longer need a Freeloader.
