That sounded weird as I just looked through ebay. Did it again and saw that I had it set to show only auctions.

Well, if anyone here wants to sell a cable for _less_ than 100 dollars then?

I never understood why these are so damn expensive. You can pick up component cables for Wii for like 5€, why do GC ones cost a fortune?

The gamecube have a special decoder chip in the cable. They were something like $35 new when they were on the market.

Can the Gamecube output native component?

Where I am getting at: Is a component mod directly to the AV-port possible?

Sorry for thread crapping, but that would be a cheap alternative for those seeking a component video solution for their Gamecube without spending a fortune...

I don't find it too likely that anyone would sell me a cable for less then the going price on ebay, so no worries.

According to gamesx that elusive chip in the cable is still kept secret by nintendo and macronix:

I'm having some trouble loading that page. In short: no. If it could, Nintendo wouldn't have bothered with the chip in the cable, and we'd all be buying £10 third-party component cables instead of waiting for someone in a warehouse to stumble upon a crate load of the original Nintendo ones. Unless that happens, the prices are very likely to stay where they are.

(edit: and if anyone does ever find a cheap source, let me know!)

Well, you can get it cheaper directly from Japan. It's still expensive, however far less than 100$US. I haven't seen a cheap component on ebay since ages..
