I'm hoping that one of you out there would be willing to sell there spare mod chip for the Sega Saturn model 1. I've been told that this chip is no longer being made. :crying: which is why I am asking if any one there have a spare. :icon_bigg

First, why would I want this... I am looking for it because I really want to back up my Saturn titles. They all have no scratchs on them execpt for one and I'm thinking that I might be able to copy.

Thanks for any for your help.

Buy model 2 modchip and convert it to model 1. It'll be like 10 times cheaper than original model 1 modchip :)

or just buy a more recent Saturn? They are very cheap and a few online retailers are still selling the mods - just use google.

I'm looking in to on getting a SEGA Saturn moldel 2, but it would be easier if I had the mod chip for Model 1.

Have you tryed modding the model 2 chip into a 1?

Yes, I did it with 1 modchip and it worked fine.

Strangely enough, i've also tried a model 2 chip in a model 1 Saturn but I never altered it in any way which explains why it never worked! I've still got it in the loft so I might dig it out and do this for myself....it's a good thing I left it (mod) in the machine (which still worked!).

If it does work, I may be tempted to sell it (if it works) quite cheaply as I was considering just giving it away until recently. I have a couple of other modded Saturns kicking around anyway...

    :)

I've ordered a 21 pin saturn modchip from www.xinga.com a couple of years back. Quite a smooth transaction, even though they're based in China, and I paid for it with my PayPal account. Delivery within a couple of weeks, and installation was a snap: either 1 (or 2?) wire install on to the PCB, and I needed to twist the CD ribbon cable in order to line up the pins on the modchip's socket....

note - the 21 pin chip will only suit the 2nd model Saturn, with the round buttons, and not the earlier 1st model with the oval buttons. The 1st model will only take a 20 pin type modchip, which would be superhard to find...
