For my own personal reasons, I'm looking to see if anyone's got an IBM POWER CPU. No PowerPC, I'd prefer a POWER4 or POWER5 (6/7 is cool, but $$$$). I don't need, nor do I want to pay for the system board or processor card.

That's about it. Let me know what you've got + specs of the chip. Thanks!

Yeah, but I don't have regular access to servers or server parts. The POWER CPU's were really only used for servers.

is not the same a PowerPC than a POWER cpu, similar but not the same, you can try on computer stores that maybe contacto you with some people that handle computer scrap, btw, why do you want it? (i'm curious) i love to collect useless stuff like those old pentium 2 266mhz on that sexy cartridge or cool looking IC or transistors (most of my keychains and my friends are transistors or IC) but buying such a rare and probably expensive piece just for its coolnes i don't know...

G5 PowerMacs... Ahhh, I remember when I had the quad model. What an insane computer. I was more surprised it didn't have to plug into the wall socket through one of those dryer sockets!

My reason? Just like yours! I've got a ton of random little computer-y things that just caught my eye- an SSD from 1997, a handful of older Intel processors, external tape drives, etc etc. Plus, if you've ever googled a picture of a POWER4- the damn thing's the size of my hand, if not larger. Having a CPU of that magnitude is plain awesome.

I know... Sold it for newer intel hardware for compatibility. I'm tempted to go out and buy one, but I'd have no use for it, other than to just look at it.
Plus, I upgraded the hell out of that computer- max graphics, 16GB RAM, extra graphics cards, 23" LCD (ADC and then DVI/aluminum).
I love my parents, and the ability to buy computers for "work-related purposes".
