If anyone has a japanese WII they are thinking of selling let me know I just need the console. I have controllers and power supply from my us version. I just want to play the train simulator and it is region locked on japan region.

Densha de Go! Shinkansen EX - great game, one of my favorite Wii titles. Do you still have your US Wii? - thought about a modchip to boot imports?

Used Wiis are easy to get in Japan but they mostly come with everything included, or at least the ones I see do. They're also notthat much cheaper than a new one either.

It's my understanding that Densha is one of the games that doesn't come with any firmware update on the disc - but you do have to be careful with others.

However, I'd agree that a Japanese model is the easier (if more expensive) option - it's what I ended up doing. I really just wish they'd dump the region lock, though...

Nice to see some Densha fans around here, BTW.

They are great I have them for the PS2 and dreamcast. I have 2 different train controllers for my PS2. I am hoping they release one for the PS3

On a japanese WII I know play asia has them for 250 just hoping to find one for less. On modding thought about it but with WII still hard to get and the luck I had of getting a us version I didn't want to try it. On firmware updates anything I need to be aware of for a japanese console?

I'm a sucker for densha controllers (I have nearly all the ones released for PS1/2, N64, Saturn, DC, Wii & the ones made for PCs!), so it's pretty much a given that I'd get any PS3 one they might come out with.

$250 is not bad. Yesasia has them for $299, but the shipping is free with them.

If the console is not-modded, then you shouldn't have any issues. I've been pulling/installing updates online without any problems. It's not too hard to figure out what does what, especially if you have a US console to compare menus with. Most of the US updates seem to follow the Jap ones within 24 hours, so I usually do the US one first, just to have a better idea what the update is.

ps: Yakumo, do you ever come across cheap used copies of the Japanese release of Wii sports, perchance?

This title confused me for a moment... I thought it had something to do with Pearl Harbor.

You got to be joking mate. The shop knows that all those none gamers are going to buy it no matter how much they sell it for. Used copies are still about 4000 yen ! Needless to say that I don't own it. If I did I'd never get the missus off the Wii.

Yeah, that's in line with the prices I've been seeing for used ones - I was hoping the market might have saturated a bit by now, or that you might have a secret stash to offload.

    I know the feeling!

Back to topic: I just scanned thru Yahoo Auctions & prices on there are generally no better than the play-asia/yes asia prices (& then you've got fees & shipping to add in, too). There's one Japanese ebay seller who has one up at $265, but then the shipping is $68 on top of that.

Understandable that you don't want to mess with modding your Wii.... Wii modchips are only 5 wires (DMS, D2A, D2B chipsets at least), but it still made me nervous modding mine since I got my Wii on a lucky whim one day when I decided I wanted one. Just for the records, there is no update on the Densha de Go! disc.

Its my understanding that certain PS2 controllers work with PS3 Railfan?...that is one of the only reasons I want a PS3 - Railfan and Railfan Taiwan High Speed Rail.

I need to go and actually verify this for myself, but the Type 2 controller is supposed to work almost 100% with the 1st Railfan, if your PS3 firmware is up to date. Apparently, you still need to use the 6-axis to navigate some of the menus - there was some discussion about this <here>. Unfortunately, I think Railfan THSR doesn't support any of the current controllers. :-( Again, I'll have a go at checking this myself in the next day or so (my PS3 is in the living room, so I've played using the 6-axis, rather than bring my controllers out from the den, where I usually do most of my Densha stuff).
