    Hi.

I am looking for prototypes, prereleases, alphas, betas, debug, tech demos for Megadrive, Sega CD and Sega 32X, mainly ones I don't have. I'm especially looking for Sonic protos. If you have something interesting, I can pay good cash. I will agree to any conditions.

If you want to contact me, you can do it by private messaging me here, or at thomas.bohr@gmail.com

Thomas, you're not going to have a lot of luck here by just popping up out of the blue and asking for protos, etc.

We here at ASSEMbler are a community site, and as such you'll really need to build up your reputation as someone who actually is interested in the community.

Have a nice time here, though, if you're interested in hanging around.

Well I can't see the reason for your hostility to be honest:shrug:

He wants to spend money and if i.e. I had an MD proto for sale, I'd not hesitate to sell it to him, why should I? Because he has only 1 post?

That would be a reason for me.

Alas, I am not trying to be hostile. I am merely pointing out that some people will be more adverse as, as far as I am aware, they believe they are not eBay, have spent quite a lot of time trying to find this stuff and if they wanted to sell it they would do.

Also, there may be a little bit of anxiety - it might well be someone snooping for corporate leaks and it's always risky offering protos if you haven't built up the trust, a bit like if someone is selling.

I'd prefer selling to someone who actually posts here over someone who's popped up out of nowhere, but that's just me.

Yeah, but corporate leaks for old Mega Drive protos??????

I don't think anyone cares about that type of stuff these days for any of the dead systems if said people are not working at these companies anymore, and the systems are completely dead.

I emailed the guy and have yet to receive a response.

Someone who pops in out of the blue to buy old stuff is way way more likely to contribute in the future than someone who pops in to sell old stuff.

You've got to give the guy a break really. Do we really expect people to beat about the bush and spend weeks building a 'profile' before they make a request within the market place?

Buyatari is right, it's not as if he's spamming us with fake/unwanted crap.

He may have been looking for a place like this for months...not a very nice welcome if you ask me.

I think being hostile towards someone who has an interest in these things simply because they don't have a high number of posts is pretty elitist and quite unattractive for a community that could only benefit from an increased number of members.

We should all be welcoming new members with open arms.

That's not to say you should reveal all that you have to every Tom, Dick and Harry that enters here, but caution and hostility don't have to go hand-in-hand.

Of course you could say that I have this opinion because I myself am relatively new, though I think deep down everyone knows that what I'm saying is correct.

To top it all off, this particular query is about protos on a long-dead system. If he was asking for a contact for one of those stolen 360 development kits then that's one thing, but old Mega Drive protos?

Welcome to the forum thomasb. I don't have any Mega Drive protos myself, though I'm sure others on here have some and I hope they get in touch with you.

    Hey everyone,

I didn't intend to appear like some kind of leecher or anything like that, I was just under impression that this is the right place to ask. If I offended anybody, I'm sorry.

For those who contacted me, I'm rather busy recently, I'll get back to you soon.

This is the right place to ask, most people just prefer to deal with people with a reputation and a decent post count. With 1 post people aren't willing to take a risk, but they do it with eBay.

Currently I'm after protos of released DC titles, they are easier to come by than mega drive/genesis titles though. Bit rot could have set in by now.

Ape: That whole bit rot thing is a bit exaggerated. I have hundreds of cartridge prototypes, and the only one with "Bit rot" had some damage to it before I received it. I don't have any Atari 2600 prototypes, but those go 30 years and they are still going. I know "eventually" these will die out, but if you back them up, should be no issues.

Also, most arcade games have EEPROMS as well, and I never see anyone talking about bit rot on those much. Simple as reburning the ROMS.

Usually bitrot happens when you leave the carts in the sun for hours or something like that - generally treat your carts badly.

I got three bitrotted protos in total, and I must say that sometimes it does hurt.

Ha maybe, I've seen a SNES Baseball game have horrible bitrot, and it was a standard SNES cart, not EEPROM at all.

Sure, everybody has been a newbie once, but as a seller wouldn't you want to sell your goods to someone you know is going to pay / isn't trying to scam you? (I'm NOT talking about anybody here) I had some bad experiences on Ebay and almost all were with new members. There's a lot of clowns around just waiting to rip you off, it's the sad truth. Building up some reputation before buying / selling never hurts, that's all.

The fact that he registered and made his first post here is worrying as :

    1. Marketplace is not viewable via unregistered account.
So he must have another account.

    2. No other post except here with an offsite e-mail. He's either:
    A. Really young
    B. Scammer

I welcome all users, but posting one message on a board where
the marketplace is hidden in the first place is suspicious.

Sorry to tell you that, but when I'm logged out, I still can see there is a Marketplace, only hidden is what's inside of it...

I probably should have contributed more before posting this topic, sorry for that.

And like unclejun has noted, it is possible to view the marketplace as an unregistered user. I did lurk around here for a lot of time, only registered recently, because I never really had a reason to do this before.
