I'm sick of my NES being a dick with every cart I put in it, what's the best solution to this? I've seen some replacement cartidge slots on ebay, but they're £12 or so and I object to paying that much for a basic component that's only worth a few pence.

    Any advice welcome.

You can probably pop open your NES, observe how the ZIF mechanism is making contact with your carts and then correct from there. It could just be corrosion on the pins that could be fixed with electrical contact cleaner, or a loose connection that can be fixed by slightly bending some pins (dunno I don't have a NES). You could also disable the lockout chip so the console will stop blinking and start regardless of whether the connection is good, to do that you just need to cut pin 4.

I have a few spare nes machines if you'd like one. They are not cosmetically in good condition bit if it is only for spares and repairs then your not going to be using the case anyway. Or you could just use this and throw yours away if your not too fussy.

Send me a PM with your address and I will send it out asap. All you have to pay is postage, which I will work out when I know your address.

I'm always surprised by the generosity in this forum. That's really cool of you, thanks.

Calpis, I'd noticed the rebooting thing sometimes. I'd read about NES10 or 10NES or whatever the lockout chip is called, wondered if it had something to do with that, as it's roughly a second per reboot and occasionally I can actually see the game underneath. I vaguely remember that you needed to solder the leg to ground or +5v or something, if it's just a case of cutting it then that's great news. I'll cut it on both consoles, and we'll see which actually works after that.

    Thanks, both of you.
