I always thought it was just a standard PC power cable that went from the brick to the wall?

    hmmmmm lol.

Silly Parris and his crazy top secret missions >_<

Anyways I recommend one of the MS cables that has the ground on it. I have a launch 360 witha intercooler and NEVER had a problem and I play it ALOT including Dead Rising. As far as I can tell, the grounded cord is the only thing diffrent about mine compared to almost all the RROD ones.

Just a bit of advice -

The 360 PSU lead is just a standard ATX cable, except that there's a notch at the top. You can create this notch yourself, though, by simply drilling or cutting a hole in the plastic. I've tried it and it works flawlessly.

Question, are you after the lead with or without the grounding pin?

UK version as the purchaser is in the UK. I'd be happy to remodel a cable ending, but it's going to someone I know and from experience everything has to be official material, otherwise I'll get complained at and questions over whether the item was second-hand etc. Actually, it's new, but the PSU lead was damaged and no use. Went back to supplier and they couldn't take one out of another box (breaking seal etc) so they suggested I buy one second-hand and they'd cover cost. I thought it would be straight forward, but nobody is selling the genuine article.

It's a pain in the ass I know, but it's to avoid an even greater pain in the ass.

Just incase anyone is looking for one of these too, the particular plug end of the older brick units is actually non standard and the plug for it in Maplin's is called a "Hot Condition Euro Socket (IEC320: C15)" costing £2.50 or so to be attached to a 3 core cable (standard)

What I meant was, there are two versions of the power brick, a hot one without a earthing pin and a normal one with an earthing pin on the IEC side of the cable. You can use the one with the earthing pin on both but you can't use the non earthing pin one on a PSU with an earthing pin.

You still have to 'cut' the channel into the top of the plug if you use a standard kettle lead and whilst that would be okay for me and my own personal use, I don't think the person buying it would be all that pleased ;-) so I was looking for the MS official one until I found Maplin had the socket in stock. They no longer sell the entire ready made cable however. Strange eh!

Yes, I know that but there are still *TWO* versions of the official microsoft power cable. I assume that you are after the one with the earthing pin on the IEC end missing so it has two holes?

LOL - I have mentioned the fact that I am looking for the 'older' style with the notch. I am after the 3 pin type, with the notch in the plug, hence the problem as it's not standard, atleast not here in the UK (not sure about the rest of Europe). They can be obtained, but not so easily. I went through a box of kettle leads I have and not a single one of them had the notch cut out. This from a box of roughly 30 cables collected over the years.

I'm reaching a compromise - get a genuine lead, cut the end off it and attach the socket I bought in Maplins, that way the buyer cannot complain.

It's the type found here: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=190190357968&ssPageName=STRK:MEWA:IT&ih=009

As opposed to the more common:
    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Mains-Lead-Power-Cable-1-5-m-UK-TV-LCD-Kettle-HD_W0QQitemZ320210349062QQihZ011QQcategoryZ116850QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

Poor image used in auction, but you can see the difference :)

Anyway, if someone does have the older 3 pin top type with the notch cut out, which appears to be difficult to obtain then let me know.

Not all Xbox PSUs have the EARTH pin on the PSU and come with a weird 2 pin lead that has no hole where the EARTH pin would plug into. I noticed I had a Xbox 360 lead in my bag but it was the stupid 2 pin type which is no use to me.

Can I perhaps purchased that one and I'll just cut the end off and fit the socket I purchased from Maplin? I'd appreciate it - it's a better length and would look ALMOST genuine ;-)

Sure, although I am in Japan so it'll take a few days to get to you. PM me your address and I'll pop it in the post tomorrow. Paypal me the postage when you get it.

Jamtex, why did I think you were in the UK? Are you sure about sending it? Of course I'd sort payment for P&P, but seriously had I realised you were in Japan I'd not have even suggested it! Many thanks :)
