Do any of you guys have a spare/know where to get a replacement middle gear for the PC Engine CD-ROM addon? Mine's turned to cheddar cheese, and I need a replacement! Or is there some other fix for this? I tried gutting a DVD drive for parts, but none of the gears fitted.

They don't exist, someone over at pcenginefx tried to get a working gear to be 3D scanned but no one helped. There is a drive mod that does fix the issue but requires a lot of work, you can find that there too.

Ah, I've found some replacement middle gears on Yahoo! Auctions Japan over HERE. The guy is selling 5 of them, but Buyee's system can't handle auctions with multiple items!

*EDIT* I've started a thread looking for 4 other people who want to go in for a group purchese of the gears OVER HERE

hey,i make different brass gears and also recycle original gears from units with stuck gear syndrome where the owners requested brass gears. beware of some of those yahoo gear sellers. i bought a gear there and i got sent 2 pieces of gears that i was supposed to glue together to make the compound gear. they didn't mention this or it was in japanese and i couldn't read but i tried so much crazy glue with no success. they sit on my desk as a reminder of my stupidity! plus the apertures weren't even the same so i had to drill.
but there are 2 sellers on yahoo, both look the same but i cant say for sure about the other one. probably pre glued or actually laser scanned and built. im not gonna risk getting it.
you can read more of my fix here:
