AUS/NZ WTB: PlayStation 3 Reference Tool/Prototype

Hey all,

I was wondering about the PlayStation 3 Reference Tools and Prototypes, how much are they and are they worthy having as part of a collection? I live in Western Australia. Any correspondence would be greatly appreciated.

What models are you looking for. This should be your main focus. Reference TOOL would imply DECR1000A or DECR1400A.
If you're looking for something else you should specify what exactly

I thought I would update this WTB thread. If it's a DECR-1000A or the more elusive DEH-R1040 (a highly unlikely, but possibly worthwhile endeavour), I would be grateful. Since spongeonfire disappeared, the search has become more difficult. Since time has become a major factor in the search for one of these, have the prices risen since I started this thread in 2017? Only problem I've heard about them is the weight and sheer size of these systems (something like 20 - 23 kg?). I also heard that some fall victim to video output errors, such as RSX issues, components not being plugged in all the way (apparently occurs during shipping?) or GPI switch misplacements. The challenge in finding one may be increased significantly due to the fact there weren't many game development companies here in Australia (I can only think of one for the PlayStation 3 era and that was Team Bondi; unlikely any Reference Tool's remain here in Australia). Any word back on this matter would be much appreciated!

I have a DECR-1000A somewhere in the house, but because of the size and weight of the item. Shipping from Singapore to Australia is crazily expensive.

Thanks the message! I looked at your link and the postage was outrageous, but I guess it falls under the category of weight since they're around 18 - 23kg. I'll let you know how I go as at the moment I may need to save a bit more, due to the postage cost. Thanks again for the message and I'll keep you on my priority list!

Wow, that is one nice system! What's the condition all round? Only reason I ask is that I might have seen some scuffing (that doesn't matter all that much as DECR-1000A's were stored in areas where damage would occur). And you still have the manuals! That's a rare thing to see. Even though it's unlikely, do you still have the original box and what's the reliability like on these systems? (And another question, are the Blu-Ray drives easy to replace if in the event they do fail?)

Just to clarify on the shipping, was the currency in USD or was AUD? It seems a bit confusing as it doesn't have a currency name next to the prices. Take care and I look forward to hearing back from you.

That would be great! I think I've seen the original box before, they look almost like a generic cardboard box except for the fact it shows all the information for the system (DECR-1000A Reference Tool for PlayStation 3, 18 kg, et cetera). I've found since a fellow member on here (spongeonfire) left, it's become increasingly difficult to find one boxed. I've seen other DECR-1000A's with boxes and they claimed to have 23 kg written on them. I'm guessing that would've included the rack mounting kit and the Bluetooth antenna? I have had a talk to a member on here who sometimes comes online (very rarely now) and said it usually depends on how much one would be. I did get a price from a seller who gets them all the time and said to me that the entire unit (minus the original box. Didn't have it sadly) including shipping was AU$730-745, so the unit is about AU$500. Does this sound right or is it a bit excessive?
