WTB: PS3 Repair Service

I've had this unit on my hands for a while and I'm just looking for someone who can fix it up for me. From what I was told by the last owner, it needs a new disc drive, which is pretty obvious when you look at the pictures (looks like it suffered a heavy impact). The unit does power on, but no image appears on the screen. There may be other problems with it (judging from the filth inside), but I'm not a huge PS3 expert, so I wouldn't know. Prepared to pay whatever it takes.

 

Would it be cheaper for you to get a new system or get it repaired by Sony (out of warranty service: $129 for BC unit, $99 for FAT non BC) ? If you really want to keep it for personal reasons, then it'd worth it to get it fixed

 

I only paid 25$ for it, and it's a BC unit, so I definitely want to get it fixed. Would getting it repaired by Sony be cheaper than anything I'd get offered here? Or would I end up paying about the same as I would for buying a used one on ebay?

 

Have you tried both the standard av cables and the hdmi cable iirc it's one or the other, I got a console "broke" which apparently wasn't outputting anything on screen, I switched the cable over from av to hdmi and it worked perfect

i think holding power and eject together for a few seconds until it beeps a few times either switches between the 2 or reverts back to standard AV, I can't remember which but it's worth a shot to try find out exactly what's wrong with it before sending it off for repair

 

Are you sure that system is BC (i.e the model number ends with A->E) ? The board and the PSU are not the ones come with BC units.

HDMI won't output picture could be some HDCP hand shakes issues. Try the analog output (composite, component, S-Video) to see if there is video. To reset video setting, hold the power button when turning on the system until you hear a second beep.

I have all the parts that you could use to fix the systems but it's time consuming and in the end you might have to pay about the same amount as sending in to Sony for repairing (they give 90 days warranty also)

 

also didn't the BC models have the card reader and 4 usb ports

 

Well, I just checked, only two USB ports. That kills pretty much all my motivation for fixing it, so I guess this thread can be closed now. Thanks to everyone for their help and information.

 

The original USA 20GB console has full backward compatibility and only 2 USB ports on the front. Are you sure it's not one of those? (Mine surprisingly is still working!)

 

The 20GB has 4 USB ports. The model number is CECHB0x. There is no 20GB version with 2 USB ports.
