Tried to mod a psone, broke something, need a new board. :)
(Discs no longer spin, laser works, but no longer in this one.)

Really all I need is the motherboard but will take any loose console/s with no cables or accessories needed. I live in the US and shipping would be to PA. Thanks!

Can't believe I zapped a practically new PSone :dammit:

FYI that laser assembly is 100% compatible with the larger grey Playstations out there. I have a SCPH-1001 that I dropped a SCPH-101 laser into and holy crap is it nice.

    PM sent.

That is the plan in case I can't get a replacement board. I just tested it out on my 5501 and it works great. Might need a POT adjustment though.

I'm pretty sure it was me. The console starts and the laser is visible but the motor won't spin the disc with the board. For awhile the issue I had was everything would spin but I got stuck on the black logo screen or got the region lock out from my imports. I'd love to fix it someday but couldn't find any documentation on this issue online last night.

Sure I'll upload some pictures soon.

    Edit:

    The guide I followed

Picture of my attempted mod. (circled the areas I worked on)

    Edit #2:

Just tested the rest of the console and everything else works. (memory card slots, controller ports) I have a multimeter. Is there anything I can use to test out the board? My see if some really did short out something on the board.

    Check Point # 3
This is the most common problem with the motor/laser

Thank you I will take a look at point #3. Are there any readings I could do with a multimeter at point #3 or should I perhaps touch it up with a bit of solder? Lets say that the point was shot. Could I fix it or should I just toss the board at this point?

    Edit:

JINN!!! You are the man!. The discs is spinning again!

    Glad to hear.
I guess you don't need a new board after all.

Looks like I'm going to need a board anyway. Since the discs were spinning again I wanted to take another stab at the mod chip but the little chip at point #3 came off the board. I'll send you a PM sometime down the road in regards to the board.

It was a 30 watt iron Radio Shack brand. I went shopping for a new iron today to but didn't pick one up thinking the board was shot. I should of left it alone but I just had to put that mod chip on. :banghead:

The 30 watt was to high and you held the iron tip to long on point #3.
Get a 15 watt iron from rat shack, $7 I think.
I only use the 30 watt when i want to desolder.

I warned you about that point! Very easy to use a bit too much heat and liquify both sides of the component's solder.

Wub my Weller WLC100. Lost the screw holding the tip in place and they're sending me a new one for free.
