    Hello,

not sure whether this is the right forum room. I found similar threads in the "Living in Japan" room only. :-(

If there's a more suitable room than this, I please moderators/admins to move this thread elsewhere. Thanks :)

I'm soon moving on honeymoon to Australia, spending also a couple of days in Hong Kong.

I'm of course willing to visit classic videogaming shops and flea markets. I'm focussing mainly on consoles of the early 80's era, especially Creativision.

Do you have any addresses, names, websites, etc. of such shops?

The cities I'm visiting are: Melbourne, Sydney, Adelaide, Brisbane and... Hong Kong.

Thanks in advance for your further replies :)

GameTraders are the only bricks 'n' mortar store that carries retro games (though I've never heard of Creativision, it may not have been released here) that I know of. In all honesty, I just use eBay to buy my retro games.

GameTraders are in Australia. Not sure about Hong Kong. I think the Highpoint one was the closest to the city in Melbourne but it needed a tram ride to get there from what I recall.

Within Paddy's Markets in the inner city of Sydney you can find a little retro (and import) store upstairs from the main markets but the main issue is that a lot of retro or import stores will charge you an arm and a leg for things.

Sealed copy of Final Fantasy VII Greatest Hits version? Last saw one priced at either $150 or $250 in one of the shops here.

Other than that, I would recommend checking out pawn shops here like Cash Converters as you can usually find some decent things in there and you can sometimes barter the price down if it's in shitty condition.

The only other ones I really know of are say Retro Games which you can get the address of here on their site. Haven't personally been there as of yet, but I've had a few people suggest them to me.

There was also Revolution CD (used cds, games and movies) but I believe they've closed their Bondi Junction store so you'd have to go out of your way to go to one of their stores, so if you see one in any other cities you visit when you come here - check them out.

I would also recommend to check any flea markets or second hand/charity stores. Especially the larger ones. Like St Vincent De Paul's (which has been renamed to "Vinnie's" on most signs) so keep an eye out for any of these signs -

If you go to the larger stores, you also have a higher chance of making off with sealed/mint copies of games (I found Zone of the Enders, Guilty Gear XX mint and opened), demo discs, promo discs, sets of magazines and all sorts of stuff at the Tempe Salvation Army here in Sydney. Just have to make sure to check the cases to see if the disc is in there, if it's scratched to hell OR if it's a bootleg.

In some of the smaller ones, I've been finding lots of bootlegs or translation patched bootlegs, reproductions in the stores lately but they tend to have really shitty printed covers or discs so they're really very obvious to spot.

For the really old stuff, your best bet is honestly in my opinion - either Cash Converters, charity stores or flea markets/garage sales.

Lamont: thanks very much for your detailed post! :)
I dont get email notifications from the forum... still trying to guess why.
Sadly I will spend 3-4 days only in each city in Australia. I think that I wont have the time to hunt for garage sales. Will do my best to visit charity stores.
    Thanks!!

You could go to Cash Converters there is one in the city of Melbourne near the Queen Vic Market that I know of but there are plenty more in the suburbs and other cities and towns around Oz. Hit up there site on google for store locations. unfortunately as with Gametraders the games and consoles are usually very expensive to buy. Sometimes you can be very lucky and find some nice cheap odities though.
