I recently obtained a disc for this kind of unit, so I need a reader for it. Needs to be a wireless model, and I just need the console itself. Don't want anything else.

I paid 400 for mine doubt you will find one that is going to be 70 bucks they still ain't as common to come across these days wish you luck

also edited forgot to add if you see them selling for a couple of hundred bucks I'd suggest picking it up they come around but usually for alot higher since it usually shows up on ebay or go to xbox surgeon who asked you for your price he will give you a good price for one

mean I got a cat dev and cat-r wii u dev kit on craiglist for 300 which both sold on the developer portal is like 5k total doesn't mean those deals don't come around they do but very rarely

Yeah my RVT-R I probably wouldn't let go for less than $350 shipped honestly. Sounds like you've just gotten lucky a few times.

my personal opinion is if you need a rvt-r and have the money I would have to say surgeons price is very fair and I would of personally scooped one for that price back then if that opportunity came even though I paid 50 more

anyways hope you get the kit there pretty nice kits and hope you find the deal your looking for but if you can't find a deal like that I would personally sleep on it and really think about getting it from surgeon honestly would hate for you to lose a opportunity to own one yourself

If you just want to dump the disc, there are ways of doing that without a RVT-R reader

I've asked around the people I've talked to said that there wasn't a way, maybe they were wrong, how would you dump the disc?

Clearly you didn't read the reply's properly in that thread properly.

There is 3 way's to dump an RVT-R disk.

1, With an RVT-R unit. (I think it would need to be modded though.)
2, With a normal DVD drive (only certain models) involving a disk swap. I.e you take the disk out while the drive is open and spinning with a 50% chance you end up breaking the disk hence we said not to do this. There's also the risk of looking into the laser and doing harm to your eyes.
3, Buy a modded drive which is next to impossible as currently only 1 drive is known to be alive still which is my one but currently in the hands of Bad_Ad who is trying to clone it. This hasn't worked out so far.

The safest options is 1 & 3. 2 is very risky and you've more chance of breaking/damaging a disk as I know myself as I lost an NR disk before I found the custom drive.

Currently only one person has released any RVT-R images and thats me. It's why I offered you help before but you wasn't interested so I didn't bother to reply no more.

So people aren't doing it wrong. Trust me I spent over 8 months working a way out to dump an RVT-R disk without an RVT-R reader and this drive was the only option and there was under 5 ever made. My one is the only model known to be around still that works/isn't lost.

Please do not attempt option 2 though as the risk is too high you will damage the disk and lose data.

How would you with an RVT-R? Because if we could, he could always pay for someone with one to rip his disc.

Why is it so hard to clone a disc writer? I don't understand how NR writers and RVT writers are so rare in the first place considering everyone using NR or RVT readers had to have a writer to write the discs they used. They're just normal dvd drives modified by nintendo so why is it so hard to modify them ourselves?

Its a modified firmware. I have cloned the firmware from his drive to a new one, which now detects as the correct drive.

However, it doesnt read any discs (but I didnt test the drive when it arrived from ebay!). I have ordered another drive, which is apparently brand new. I will test the drive first, then reproduce the mod.

Should have some news in the new year.

Maybe we should start anew thread in the Nintendo Dev portion so this doesn't get spammed up.
