you'll need to find the continuity test option on your meter

Ok so lets see if I have this right:

    image_23332.jpg

    1) I set the multimeter to 200 ohms. Black on ground screw plate, Red on pin hole.

    2) If I get a 0 reading, that means there is continuity and it's a v1.4.

    3) If I get a 1 or infinity, that means no continuity and it's a v1.5

    Everything sound ok?

ok so I think I my multimeter is not working properly. It seems I am getting no reading on anything I check, just 1's. Have to get a new one.

Touch the pins together to test them. If it still reads 1 then something is wrong.

Chances of it being a 1.5 are so slim that you might have a better chance of winning the lotto. What was the manufacture date and was it in a black XBOX shell?

What exactly is the differences of the 1.5 vs the 1.4 and the 1.6, just this ground test? Or is there a physical chip or something on it?

Just the different voltages between the two. Other than that, nothing. Both can be TSOP'd, chipped and softmodded.

The only reason I want one is for my collection! I have a special console that I like to keep the best parts in and feel like that board would be the rarest board. I have the hitachi DVD drive and the samsung 1.2-1.5 PSU and the 1.5 board would fit nicely in the package.

Sorry to keep everyone in suspense!

I'm getting a fluctuating reading of 01.7 to 01.9 on the "-->+" setting (which is the diode setting according to my manual, not an audible continuity function) and a reading of 003 on the 200 ohms setting but the fact that I am getting anything besides inifinty mean it's a 1.4, correct?

It appears this multimeter only has the diode setting and not a dedicated continuity function.

Sorry davidthomas, I'll let you know if I come across any 1.5 boards in the future.

In the meantime it's given me more reason to educate myself on using a multimeter. Thanks guys for your help!

To bad! It was worth the lesson though. The 1.5's are more rare then hens teeth!
