I currently have a beta 1 unit that I purchased off of taobao years ago. It is missing the sidecar and faceplate. At the very least I need a faceplace and I am wondering if the sidecar would do me any good. When I boot the unit up it immediately brings me to the retail dashboard. No intro video or anything. Is there some kind of recovery to get it back booting into the XDK dash or are those units like the final ones where it is one or another? If so the sidecar wouldnt be much use other than looks. In that case I'd be interested in a broken one if anyone has one.

When you power it up, does it have 2 blinking yellow lights on the top, and a series of 5 blue near the bottom? if you dont see any of that, AND its booting to retail dash, might have bought a swapped board mate

I can pm you 1888 recovery however it is an ISO. I am not sure many people have beta recovery remotes... At least I've never found one sadly :(. Maybe it was just a bad recovery in the past.

Are you sure you've got a beta XeDK.... Taobao aren't exactly known for being "trustworthy" or having "reputable" sellers :L

Like Stipo said; Make sure its got the correct LED's, otherwise TaoBao f****d you.

@XboxSurgeon can help you with the case and faceplate.

As for the Sidecar it will take a lot of work to find one. I didn't work much to get mine for it but because, I knew he had one and I just had to work out a deal with him.
    Goodluck

Also some pics of the inside would be nice to see if it is a beta 1.

Here are pics of the internals. When I bought the kit it had all of the front and back ports destroyed. I removed them all and put in new ones minus the ethernet/back USB (I cant remember why I left it out I have had this for at least 6 years now). I do definitely think its a beta one. However, I just plugged it in tonight for the first time in year and it booted right up but now will not boot again. When it did boot I checked the dash and believe it said 1738. I sort of remember it being finicky before so i might just need to let it sit for awhile. It doesnt have LEDs on the front so I cant tell if its red ringing. The sidecar cables are missing because when I got the unit they were all cut and missing the ends so I took them out.

Wow Yep Beta 1, Unplug the cables from the motherboard and the titan board and plug them in very good and see if that gets it to turn on. I know when I was replacing Caps on mine that was the main issue that sometimes, they are not all the way in also my switchs on the titan board are down, down towards the Fan. Love the RF board as well:D

Well I remembered why I didn't put the ethernet port in. Back when I fixed this unit up I was still inexperienced in repair and I had done a fair amount of damage to the board when replacing the power and av ports. The boards all burned up and slightly puffy where the ports are :(. On the bright side taking everything apart and putting it back together did get the console to start. I put in the recovery disk for 1888 and it comes up on the dashboard as 'Fun Game' but when you try and launch it the screen goes black for about 2 seconds and then it goes back to the dashboard again. On a side note these things are really pretty in the dark :)

1888 won't work on an xedk1... you'd need a different recovery which will be near impossible to find. Someone recovered it as a retail unit. Until you find something more beta than 1888, it will remain a retail flashed kit.

As far as faceplate and shells are concerned XeDK is 100% correct, I believe I am the person around with extra shells and these prototype face plates. If you're interested, feel free to pm me. I too had my xedk from taobao so I know how jacked up they can come....

Can't he just use a donor nand for it to run a recovery and keep the real nand safe intel he finds a beta recovery? NvM that would still not work
