Im pretty sure they have talked about an addon for windows xp that will give it media centre capabilities? Try google.
That would be nice. I tried google real quick. Didn't find anything. Anyone else read about such plans? From what I understand you can't even upgrade from XP MCE 04 to XP MCE 05... CF
Step 1> Buy XP MCE 05 discs from retailer. Step 2> Install on PC. Step 3> Share media with PC. MS has said all along that you'd need MCE if you wanted to stream video to the 360. Not like it's new. You needed MCE to stream video to the original Xbox when it was running the extender program as well. Again, nothing new here. -hl718
Theres media extender, which allows youj to stream music, but not video. Don't expect one soon either, MS get more money out of people buying media centre than XP home
Of course not. Look at how the Xbox homebrew scene has flourished. Sure, there are many that are waiting for the system to be cracked solely to play pirated games but it's not fair to say that it's only for that purpose. Someone can still mod a system and pay for their games while using that system as a cheap linux box or a media center that can do a vast ammount of things beyond the original functions of the machine. I call it getting more bang for your buck (piracy aside).
for me it's to bypass region checking... if any company makes region free console ditching silly region code I'm all for it... till then I will have to wait till the new consoles are cracked to bypass the region coding...
What so they can play all those emulated (pirated) games or use media centre to play all those divx movies they downloaded? While there might be a small tiny percentage of people who dont use their modded xbox for such illegal things (mind you isnt modding your xbox illegal anyways?) once the gate is open 90% of its activities will be for pirating.
I only download copies of games I buy, so I can keep them sealed. Legal or not, that's all I'd go far as condoning.
Well i am all for downloading games you have bought yourself but still if the games sucks do you take it back? it is still sealed in the package and all?
Sounded to me like they were logging RAM contents with a high-speed logic analyser, but it's so vague it could be anything  Stone
Maybe, but nobody ever broke the Xbox encryption either, they just made it not matter by changing the BIOS. And they just figured out a file format, it's not like they're running unsigned code or anything... Stone
Huh... that's odd... Heads are gonna roll over that one. I'm sure the publishers will see that as a clear violation of what microsoft was allowed to do with those demos. Releaseing them in an unsigned, burnable format is a definate no-no. As a side note: that pretty much confirms to me how they're ripping the files. They've got a debugger. That's why they can't give out the tool they're using, it's hard to download a debugging station.
Yeah, I saw that this morning and went . Now is the demo unsigned code altogether or is just the media check not present. Because on original xbox games you could remove the media check and burn them but they wouldnt run on an original kernel.
Good points. I've been lurking the xbox-scene forums, and it seems that the disc works and that the XEX executable is signed. The media flags however are set to allow the code to be executed from DVD-R. When the Pi people states that the datafiles not are signed, they probably mean the other files. One forum member reports that he successfully have replaced the WMHDV video files on the disc. Now let's see how long it takes before someone runs arbitrary code... CF
I hope though this exploit, someone is able to make a boot disc letting people boot software of different region codes. All i care for. I'm currious if demos from the recent OXM can be swaped onto the disc. So one can play the full auto demo (i've got a jpn 360, the oxm disc is region locked)
