That's the one I'm expecting to arrive in a few days. The bulkier power cables are for the older Xboxs (that's my guess, at least). It's rumoured to have something to do with faulty power supplies in the Xbox. If you have a Foxlink power supply, you're in bad shape (or so they say).
2 of the ones I logged in with the serial numbers Limited edition green one And the newer clear ones said not required. Logged in the DeBug one and yes I need one and this is what arrived!
You said your Ltd Green one didn't need a new lead? mine did. I wonder what I will get, I hope to get the cool/crappy surge protector one!
the word that seems to be going around is that the big adapters are only meant for xboxes with foxlink power supplies. although M$ denies it, those PSUs have bad solder joints on the main connector (AC input) than can break and cause sparking and maybe damage. other PSUs "might" be affected...don't know for sure
I recently received a letter in the mail from Microsoft informing me about the trouble with some of the power cords, so I went to the website and "ordered" a new one. It should arrive in a few days.
I received mine, but is it me or is the only difference a green light than can turn orange or red when there's a problem? :/
the replacement cables background have a story. some day, Bill XXXX see the PSP news, they have 0.6% problem psp.but sony keep say is normal. and display/pad problem but sony keey say it is normal.,next day in meeting room xxxx gate ask staff. how we can show off we have good service than them(sony), staff go to check all service report......like 2 days. they find the answer..... over world replacement cables. ,,,and they told all news, cnn,TV,,,etc they have replacement..
sounds feasable, but I'm sure there was some reason - otherwise it would be for fewer consoles i think - I can't imagine they'd spend so much money on what could be done cheaper simply as a publicity stunt
maybe that's a part of the problem but i'm sure there's something more. i've actually seen pics of cracked solder joints on these power supplies. they're a bit too thin so excessive ammounts of force can crack them. see for yourself: http://forums.xbox-scene.com/index.php?showtopic=361537 BTW, there has been talk that delta PSUs might also be affected
Some company went out of business when they discovered the cord problem... If it was Japan, the guy would be moved to a broom closet and made to make paperclips by hand all day.
